Brilliant Synth, lots of surprises

Robert Reynolds

I honestly didn’t expect this to work as well as it does with my Roli block but holy cow!!!! So much fun to play. The other surprising thing is how good the presets are. I set three instances of Volt up in AUM with three separate midi channels. Then drove them from Fugue Machine. The thing just sounds brilliant. This is easily one of my favorite synths. Keep up the great work.

It says it works with “roli products”

FrostyJudas

Just bought it thinking about in using it with my lightpad block and despite being connected/recognized doesn’t trigger any sounds. Am I doing something wrong? I own a Rise 49 but is too big and heavy to carry around. I want to be able to use this on the go. Please clarify this.

Can’t Use presets?

Nathalie Poopman

Just downloaded and none of the presets are loading, not through beatmaker 3 or if I open the app by itself. What gives!!?

Excellent IOS Synth

billyboyannap

Money well spent. Limitless capability. Great Sound. Works seamlessly with my other Apps.

Not working after last update

ChocolateFetus

No sound

Very expressive MPE

KlattG

Wow, this is one of the first apps that truly utilizes MPE with simplicity and depth. Loving it with the ROLI Seaboard block. The patches are dreamy!

Great with a Roli Seaboard

Conrad Keely

Much better than the software made by Roli for their Seaboard block, VOLT works great with MPE

Rich sound, simple, effective controls; limited modulation routing

Oh_W3ll

Volt is one of those synths that just sounds fantastic. The synth engine is very streamlined: everything is boiled down to a few well chosen powerful controls that interact very well together. Simple to use yet very effective. Volt is quite cpu hungry (like most of the latest top quality analogue modeling iOS synths), so don’t expect to be able to run that many instances of the au in real time or without bouncing tracks. My biggest disappointment with Volt is with the routing options for midi modulation sources: eg pressure, key slide, etc. If you want to control multiple parameters with a single source, you are limited to applying the same modulation amount to each parameter. That basically makes it near impossible to use the a single gesture/source to do complex morphing between different sounds. (At minimum, being able to reverse the polarity of the control value per destination would help with that. Another option that would be user friendly (and fit with the streamlined design of Volt), but harder to implement, would be to be able to take ‘snapshots’ of the synth’s settings, assigning one snapshot to the min value for a modulation source, and one to the max value. And to use the modulation source to interpolate between those states.) Fingers crossed, that will be improved with the next update, but there are also stability issues with Volt on my device at this point (iOS 12, iPhone 7+). Last minor issue: the interface in au mode can be a pain to navigate in some hosts (eg Garageband on an iPhone), needing to scroll up and down on top of left-right, which makes the synth a pain to program in those hosts. (I think this has to do with the fact that the interface isn’t resized depending on au window size (and for hosts that don’t give you control over au window size, you can run out of luck..)

Fix your app and I’ll change my rating

Jaime Vendera

I could not use Volt because the preset scroller will not access any sounds at all:( But I emailed Kai and he responded immediately and discovered it was a bug with my iPhone and os already on fixing it. He even showed me a workaround. Loving the sounds!

Great synth

richardbates1

This synth is fantastic. Beautiful GUI, great sound. I have an over all questions that applies to so many iPad apps, why is there black borders around the software app? I have the new iPad Pro with the great screen that goes practically all the way to the edge yet then your app and many others don’t take advantage of that extra screen space? There is a black border around the app’s GUI.... Why is that?
