Great App!

crissaboo

This app is very well-done: the pictures are vibrant, the voices are clear, and I like the feature that allows you to record your own voice. We've experimented with having our son record his voice for some of the cards, and he giggles every time he hears himself say the words. Just one problem and two suggestions.. The French pronunciations seem a bit off on some words. That could just be a dialect difference (I'm from right outside Quebec) but my France born-and-raised mother agrees that some of the words are pronounced slightly wrong. That seems to be an issue with the Spanish words on this app as well, judging from the reviews. I would suggest adding numbers up to 100 instead of stopping at 10. I would also suggest adding more cards on a regular basis. Don't get me wrong - there's quite a few cards here, about 8 times more than a traditional store-bought deck. But any parent who has done actual flashcards with their child knows that after awhile, your child knows the whole deck and becomes disinterested in playing with them. Perhaps add some not-as-common animals, foods, shapes and everyday objects on a regular basis (every month, maybe?) to keep children interested and to give them an opportunity to continue learning with this app. I would definitely pay more if this was implented. All in all, we love it, and so does my 19-month-old son! It certainly beats spending $1-$3 on multiple packs of flashcards to get the amount of "cards" in this app. And, I don't have to worry about ripped or ruined cards, lugging around multiple decks of cards, or forgetting them while we're out and about. My husband, my brother, and my sister-in-law all have this app on their phones now so my son can play with it when he's with them, that's how much he digs it. Definitely worth $.99 and then some! I also downloaded the spelling app by this dev, knowing my son would be way too young to use it, but figuring it'd be worth downloading for the future. To my surprise, my husband opened the app for our son to let him play around with it, and he's actually learned to spell a few simple words. If you have a younger toddler, it's worth it to download (it's free) and you may be surprised to find your child is able to use it, as well.

Pretty good app, a couple minor flaws

Mr. Sanity

Overall, this is a good app for little kids. There is a decent selection of word categories with clear pictures to go with the words. The pronunciation is clear, and the interface is easy for small children to navigate. The app has two minor flaws. First, if the cards are flipped very rapidly, there is a small chance that the next card will not load. If this happens, the app needs to be exited to return to normal. Second, the volume levels for each word are not totally uniform. You'll occasionally run into a word that is said noticably louder than the others. All in all, this is a good app with two minor bugs. It's easily worth a dollar or two.

Our 15 month old loves it!

Momma2cadence

We started using this app when Cadence was about a year old. She loved it then, and loves it now! I really like that I can record my own voice saying the words, and Cady likes hearing my voice. We really like the words the creator has chosen! The pictures are bright and the words are easy to hear. I would have paid $10 for this app if I had to. Cadence has sat for 20 minutes watching and listening to this app! I NEVER write reviews, but I think every parent should know how great this app is. If you have a glitch getting started, just write the creator. They helped me within a day! Get it now! :)

My 2 1/2 year old daughter loves this app. She really loves to record her own voice so that when she taps the screen she hears herself say "A is for apple"

Great App!!!

The app is great, but it does keep showing an update after the update has been downloaded.

Well worth the money spent!

TryingOutApps

This app is well-loved by our young autistic child, who can flip through the flash cards at whatever pace she chooses, acquiring a little vocab in the process! I love the high quality photos and pleasant sound effects (so far the chime that happens when you flip a card hasn't gotten on my nerves at all, and she's been playing with the app a LOT). My only quibble is that some of the choices for words and pronunciations seem off. Example, I guess it's a regional thing but I've never heard the "measuring" in "measuring cup" and "measuring tape" pronounced like "MAYzureing" before (where I live, it's more "MEHzureing). I was also quite surprised to see the word "Biscuits" under what looked like some sort of cracker. I know "biscuits" in the UK=cookies, but I wasn't aware this app originated in the UK. Is it Canadian English? Biscuits in my region (of the US) are white fluffy round bread-like things. Additional confusion was caused by the "Viola" card. The voice pronounced it "VYEola" when I've only ever heard this instrument called a "VEEola." Also, what is shown in that picture has an end pin, and as violas don't, I think what they're showing is a cello. The good news is--the option is there to replace the spoken voice with your own. You can also eliminate the text (so I could take away the word "Biscuits") altogether. For future updates, I would love to see the option available of *editing* the text and eliminating a single card altogether. Otherwise, it's an awesome app and still worth five stars, in my opinion!

A+++

This app is incredible!! The pictures are crisp and clear and the ability to record your own voice is awesome. I think it's well worth the price because you get SO much and my son loves it!!
