You get what you pay for

Jimm with 2 ms

This is a rather sad app. For one thing, it puts punctuation after an exclamation point and a question mark; we all know that a period doesn't follow ending punctuation marks. It gives you a very limited time to speak (about 23 seconds), you have to pay to have ads removed from the app, and it censors out profanity with no ability to modify settings. Finally, I see no way to contact the programmers to address these, or any other issues. However, I will give it kudos for understanding what I'm saying, and I like the way it repeats what I said. What app is available for speech to text perfection? Well, I guess I'll have to keep looking. For something that really works, I don't mind paying to have it. Isn't someone taking the lead on this important technology?

Not sure why

Tom Steele

Not sure if you need this at all. Since you can just do this from within texting apps. I don't even know what it was doing on my phone. But I tried it and it promptly crashed as I tried to add my wife as a favorite. No need to bother with it further.

Great!

This is a great app. It is even better than Apple's dictation feature that appears next to the space bar when the keyboard appears. Sure you might need to do some editing, but it is truly the best dictation app that I've ever found. I am actually using this app to dictate this Review. This is a bit of a surprise, most of the time apps that are labeled "Pro" are paid. It does pretty good for not being paid. And the iPhone 4 does not have a dictation feature, so this really helps..

Good but not as good as Dragon Anywhere

Rpjhkid

The pros: 1. It appears to add punctuation for you 2. Voiceover type voice reads back what it typed after you have finished dictating a block of text. This is handy for dyslexic people like me) The cons Unless you speak contentiously it assumes you are finished and stops recording dictation very fast. So, you can't really take time to think 2. It appears that you cannot change text by voice command. You have to do any editing with the tappy keyboard.

Works great. My microphone and Siri doesn't work so I use this all the time.

Why?

I don't understand the purpose of this app. It's no better at voice recognition than my iPhone's built-in voice dictation function (which, for those millions who don't understand the fact, is not Siri. Siri responds to commands and requests, but she doesn't take voice dictation. Voice Dictation takes voice dictation. You invoke Siri with your home button; you invoke Voice Dictation with the microphone button on the keyboard). Anyway, as I say, this app is no better at recognizing what I say than Voice Dictation is, and it might be worse at it (try dictating the word "temptation" for example; neither this app nor Voice Dictation will get it right.) Also, this app's "erase" button has an icon (is that a paintbrush?) that doesn't make it clear what it is, and you only find out what it is once you deleted your entire message. Hopefully after you've done that once you'll remember, but there should still be some kind of confirmation dialog asking you if you're sure you want to delete everything you just dictated. Add to all this the fact that, by using this app, you're probably sending your voice dictation to yet another remote place to be interpreted, thereby reducing still further what little privacy you already have, and the case against using this app becomes very strong indeed.
