A Victory for Bootant

Djflippy

Having played through Victory March to completion on both platforms, I think that some impressions are in order. What needs to be said first, though, are a few words about the developer, Bootant. Bootant have been on the app store, almost since it's inception and have since released a slew of titles. With their previous release, Victory Day, I really feel like they hit their stride, as a company. The artwork, characters, and gameplay meshed perfectly to form a title that stood out among it's brethren. Now, with the release of Victory March HD, Bootant has proven that they can extend a valuable intellectual property in new directions to increase the lifetime of said IP and to generate revenue, but without sacrificing their vision. Their newest title does just that. Victory March HD fits squarely in the Runner genre, closer to Monster Dash than to Canabalt. You work your way through a series of six levels, at a pace dictated by the speed of the scroll. Tap buttons on screen-left to jump, screen-right to fire, and another to fire grenades, when equipped. It all seems fairly standard, but where it really shines is in the characters, theme, and sense of humor. There is more Nazi killin', per square inch, in this game than any other genre mate. Not only are there Nazi stormtroopers, but also Nazi Darth Vaders, Nazi zombies, Nazi vampires, and Nazi...ahem...female dogs. You do this with an arsenal of machine guns, rocket launchers, and flamethrowers...oh and tanks. That's right, what other Runner lets you command a Russian tank with twin-linked auto-cannons? You can play through the game as either a Russian or American soldier and, if you are an achievement hound, you get duplicate achievements with each of those playthroughs, doubled again if you own both platforms. The achievements themselves are of the "obtain weapon x" and "travel x meters" variety, so I think there is room for the developers to inject some life into repeated plays, if they take a cue from the Monster Dash playbook; x meters without shooting, squash 3 heads (which, of course, should be called, "Death from Above"), etc. Is the game ground-breaking in it's innovation? Does it provide 50 hours of gameplay? Is it my all-time favorite, pretty please with sugar on top, can I have it game...? No, no, and no, but the history of the app store has proven that it doesn't need to be. It just needs to be fun and it is. It is also the next step in Bootant's evolution and I think it is a step in the right direction.

THE 2nd World War title

ApollyonWalker

I'm a big fan of 2nd World War games and movies, and Victory March HD just entered my "II WW love list": beautiful graphics, a nice music and an enjoyable gameplay. The only downside is that it is hard sometimes: you get hit by enemies that you haven't seem yet and it's pretty hard to avoid the bullet coming. Anyway I recommend the game to anyone interested in a new taste of running game.

Your Victory Day pals are now running for their lives!

Lord Gek

This is a fun spin-off of Victory Day that plays as a clever hybrid between Victory Day and Monster Dash (so picture Victory Day but now your guy is always running forward and has to jump over breaks in his path (as well as bullets). This HD version means sharper graphics and a few additional musical tracks than its iPhone counter-part.

Everything that is good about the App store...

Freightweezul

I just loved Victory March when it first came out, and wrote a review which I do very seldom, only if something totally blows, or is total genius. VM is a hoot. Just another endless running games, only better. Charming graphics, great music, and really clever implementation of the now familiar formula off jumping over gaps and shooting bad guys in the face. Being able to play as a Russian frontiviki or an American GI, both with appropriate music, is a plus. If you like this as much as I do, take a look at the developer's other game, a sweet little platformer using some of the same art assets.

Great runner

MarinasideSteve

Everything is top notch in this game including graphics, sound, and controls with top-notch gameplay. I also found the difficulty to be just right for me. My only complaints is there are only 6 levels and it is so good I wish there were more. Since I only paid 99 cents, I can't mark it down for this.

Fun game

Fun game, its free and its best game sountrack. Thanks!

Potential to be #1 free app

Brady Earl

I love the game, great graphics, levels are a little hard and needs more levels but still has potential to be #1.

Give it a try. You'll love it

Update is Released As an Entirely Separate App?!! NOT COOL!

SweetestDeals

After $2 and more than SIX months of practically ZERO updates, the developer has the audacity to release an updated "Deluxe" version of the game in the form of a completely separate app. BAD FORM, Bootant!! If your goal was to drive away your loyal customers, then way to go. You've succeeded with me.

Monster dash clone

im14pinball

This is Monster Dash re-skinned. However its not bad, especially for free. I like Monster Dash better but this is a decent copy. Couple of negatives, I earned all achievements within 20 minutes of playing. The campaign is really short. Only 6 stages. If they start charging for this game, I would definitely get Monster Dash instead for only $0.99. Otherwise. Not a bad clone.
