Verbes - French Verb Trainer

Every French verb has 87 forms that a student of French has to learn. The best way to become expert at using the many forms of a verb in French is to drill yourself on them, over and over and over. Verbes gives you the tool to do just that.

Verbes allows you quickly drill yourself on French verbs. You tell Verbes what tense or tenses you'd like to practice; Verbes choses a verb randomly and displays the infinitive, the tense and the pronoun for a person/number (for example, third-person singular, or first-person plural). You can then say the answer, either to yourself or aloud. Touch the screen and the correct answer appears. Touch the screen again and a new verb/tense/pronoun appears.

You can also select what types of verbs you'd like to study: regular, irregular, stem-changing or orthographic-changing (spelling changes to maintain a specific sound).

If you need to study one particular verb, you can select from a list in French or a list in English.

And you can combine these selections, so if you wanted to study irregular verbs of the -er family in the present tense only, you can do that.

- Create and save any number of verb lists. This allows you to study a small set of verbs as a unit. When you use a verb list, only the verbs from that list will be used for quizzing.

- See a verb's complete conjugation.

Your Verbtrainer includes a small Help file. If you'd like to see a more complete "How-To" document, go to www.verbtrainers.com and click on the User Manual link in the left column.

You can contact the developer at [email protected].

Just what I was looking for

Merci. Great app. The ability to select just certain tenses or types of verbs is great.

Really useful
grilledcheeseonwhite

Great studying tool. Very flexible in that you can study all tenses or study just the tense(s) you need to quiz youself on.

Useful but has bug
c5nest

This is the best & most flexible verb tutor. It is easy to limit drills to particular verbs & tenses. App would rate five stars except for a seroius bug: second person plural forms seem to be absent from the drills (at least for Avoir & Être).

love it

Great idea/too many mistakes
EliseF

The basic idea of this app is GREAT. I gave this app 3 stars because of various errors. Among other things, I tried to send the following message to John, but the address provided in the app did not work: I'm enjoying using verbtrainer. Love the principle of it. But even using it for only a few days I've run into some errors--and assume there are more.... I thought it was odd that you did not have 'acheter' as one of your verbs, so I checked 'buy' on the English list, and there I found 'compter,' which means 'count' among other things. I think you should include 'acheter' as it's a super common verb--and change the meaning of 'buy'. Just found a problem with 's'amuser.' You've got 'sont' for third person singular passé composé. And you don't note the endings. Should be il/elle/on s'est amusé(e). In conjugations you're using the word 'gerund' where you should be using 'past participle.' Luckily these are things that did not throw me off, as I have a basic understanding of verb forms. I'm just a little worried about 'learning' from the things I don't realize are mistakes.... Good luck with your next update. P.S. Just noticed another error. You have 'pouvent' instead of 'peuvent' for the third person plural present tense of pouvoir. YOU HAVE A GREAT IDEA. BUT YOU REALLY NEED TO GET SOMEONE TO PROOFREAD FOR YOU!!!! GOOD LUCK.

Great App, some missing info

Hello, not all verbs have all the conjugated forms, some missing data but overall great trainer

Much better program than another verb app
PGH51

This app is cheaper than another I've seen. It has compound verb tenses, the ability to create and use lists, quizzes and tests. Best of all: no hidden fees! Downside: I tried to make a list using the "être" verbs. 4 are missing from the app: devenir, monter, descendre, and rentrer. I hope these are added in an update. I'd give it 4.5 stars if it were possible.

Life Changing

I have used this app for a while now. I can honestly say that I feel confident that I am close to being able to conjugate all French verbs in all tenses and moods. Make use of the subsets function and the single word function. The app is brilliantly thought out. I am inn my sixties and decided to learn French after becoming a widower even though friends Saud "At your age?" The app won't do the work for you. It will just seem like that.
