Be safe. Be smart. Troty Responsibly.
Riding a bike is easy, but when it comes to responsible bike share behavior a little refresher never hurts. Check out our safety and instructional info below, plus some resources on proper parking and hand signals to help keep your ride smooth and your community clean. After all, we’re in this together

SAFETY: HEADS, HANDS AND HANDLEBARS

The excitement of your first ride on an electric scooter should never eclipse the need to be safe. Start by strapping on a helmet, then make sure you pump the brakes on your Troty to ensure they’re working properly before unlocking. When on the road, follow all traffic laws such as stop signs and one-ways, and always keep both hands on the handlebars unless signaling to indicate an upcoming turn.

RIDING: WHAT WOULD CYCLISTS DO?

It may be tempting to ride your e-scooter on the sidewalk, but that’s not what they’re designed for. Reaching speeds of up to 25 km/h, Troty scooters are meant to be ridden on roadways, in bike lanes and on permitted bike paths and trails – in other words, wherever you’d legally ride a Troty.

PARKING: KEEP IT SIMPLE, KEEP IT CLEAR

While dock free scooters can conveniently be parked almost anywhere, there are some protocols to follow. The best rule of thumb is simply this: keep all pedestrian walkways clear. This means sidewalks, exit and entrance ramps, bus stops and any other location where those on foot or in a wheelchair would easily need to get by. When you’re ready to park your scooter rental, look for locations that are out of the way, such as bike racks and sidewalk furniture zones. When all else fails, just refer back to the handy visual guide in the Troty app.

TECHNOLOGY: THESE AREN’T YOUR DAD’S SCOOTERS

Scooters have come a long way since the 90’s, and while the general concept is more or less the same, the technology most definitely isn’t. For starters, Troty dock free scooters are locked and unlocked with a smartphone, allowing them to be picked up and dropped off almost anywhere in the city. They also come equipped with a 250-watt electric motor, meaning acceleration is as easy a pressing down on the thumb throttle. Then there’s the hardware, which includes a digital speed and battery display, automatic front and rear lighting, 3G/GPS connectivity and a sensor to detect if the scooter has been tipped over.
