I am in Japan from California, and no idea how to use this app. Cannot use any Wi-Fi for free. It always requires to register paid service.

Wi2 is the company that you use for roaming in Japan from the Boingo service. Their access points are *everywhere* and blazing fast too. It's worth the money to upgrade to the paid service if you don't have Boingo and don't want to burn through expensive local SIMs.

went to some stores to get the premium code to access all wifi spots and found they no longer provide ones after waited 30 or more minutes among the representatives who don't speak English. less access points, frequent annoying notifications and unstable connection. absolutely useless. just a piece of junk.

Nearly unusable, only managed to get connected 1 out of 10 times using this app, even with a premium code!

Worse than useless—a scam. Basically puts you to work to sell yourself as a product to its advertisers and offers nothing in return. Just go to 7-11 for wifi. Requires users to authenticate through Facebook or Google to offer any service at all. No thank you. However this is a perfect example of the hoop-jumping, anti-consumer, creation-by-committee mindset that permeates Japan and in that sense should prepare you nicely for the frustrations that await.

I am extremely disappointed with this app and mostly be aware of unwanted tracking device, which might be installed on your device. Here is my story and please form your opinion based on your own research as well. When I arrived at the train station to obtain my JR Pass, there were several people at the station strongly soliciting to install wifi access throughout Japan and assist installing the app. First, I thought I would need wifi access throughout the trip, so I obtained one. Then when I first tried to use, it did not work. And it did not work at all throughout my trip. What was worse that, I had noticed that every new place we visited I would get the message from Travel Japan, which I realized that they were tracking where I was visiting. Therefore, I had no wifi access during the trip from Travel Japan and at the same time, they were tracking where I was. Even though the trip was just leisure travel, I am not too fond of a company or a government tracking where I am visiting and it is upsetting that they pretend to offer a great service for free, but actually install a tracking device as a result. I could be wrong but that was my experience. You will see that after posting my review, there would be a contradicting review indicating it. However, the truth is that I did not have wifi access during my trip, not even once.
