Transit and Trails connects you to parks and open spaces by helping you Find, Plan and Share your outdoor adventures. You can locate trailheads near you (or any location) and we help you get there on public transportation or get the directions you need to walk, bike, or drive there. You might try one of the many existing trips on the site or create a new one. You can then share your plans with a link for an email, an Evite or post the trip to Facebook and Twitter. After your hike, share pictures and your experience on Transit and Trails and join the community of people who care about and love exploring the outdoors.

Transit and Trails is a project of the Open Space Council, a nonprofit focused on providing a vision, being the collective voice, and serving as a central hub for the land conservation community in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our members work tirelessly to protect land, conserve flora and fauna, maintain trails, and make open spaces accessible. Transit and Trails is an important part of our efforts to bring nature within reach of all Bay Area residents.

Love the app! Are you planning an update to make Transit and Trails compatible with iOS 10 and later versions? I don't want to delete the app but system settings warn that it is now incompatible and may slow things down. Please update your helpful app for Bay Area trail lovers!

I love this app. Access to information on and directions to TONS of trails in the bay area. There are so many beautiful trails nearby that are accessible by public transportation, and this app shows you all of them!

Useless. Doesn't show anything. Regular google maps shows more info.

For future versions, it will be nice if they pass the location name to google maps, where it could be more easily bookmarked.

No Biking Option?

I was excited when someone who works for Trails and Transit described their ap to me a couple weeks ago. I thought, finally someone got Google to ad the bike option to their mobile mapping experience? I was wrong though:( T&T map directions are no diff than a Google Map search except that I get a list of trails? Is that it? Am I missing something? I've only tried the ap once quickly so if I am completely off please show me how to get there on a bike. thanks

Dig the specific trailhead data, lots of great trip ideas, and tons of campgrounds. Excellent coverage in the Bay Area, would like to see expansion to other cities and options to hook up and organize trips with friends.

I've been incorporating transit into my recreational activities for a few years and I'm excited to use this app as well as the website. The website has a few more features, but the app is handy when I'm out exploring.

Well designed app with a pleasing look and feel and intuitive controls. It provides access to a nice "Trails" map from google that I haven't seen in other maps. The "Trips" markers are also full of great information including personal accounts of using transit to do fun through hikes. Well done!
