Not impressed

How many years since the first game, and the graphics are all exactly the same? Really weak. Also, AI is mediocre, haven't unlocked highest difficulty though. However I don't really suspect it would change my opinion.

Decent AI, kind of ugly but quite functional
Jimgreer

For those who say the AI is too easy, crank it up to Hard in the options. You don't have to unlock that, it's available immediately. I agree that the graphics are ugly but the interface is actually very usable once you get used to it.

For serious players, nothing else is close

This app is geared towards serious Hold'Em players. It has loads of features and options that you would not see in a typical glitzy app. At the top levels, its AI is quite good too, at least to my reckoning. The developer is extremely helpful and provides the most detailed release notes I've ever seen in an app. It's clear a huge amount of time went into the features that distinguish this serius tool from ones geared more to the masses. For example, there are dozens of settings to customize the way it works, including ones to make it nearly instantaneous to begin the next hand after you fold (like Rush Poker worked at Full Tilt). You have complete control over a huge variety of factors (career mode, practice mode, ring game vs tournament vs shootout, the level of skill of the computer 'bots, the number of players per table, the buy-in amount, the size of the antes and blinds, all sorts of look-and-feel and how-to-operate-it customizations, sounds, and much more. All sorts of statistics are kept. You can export your games to files that are usable in the major professional poker-tracking applications for Mac/Windows. And everything is backed up by extensive help and a very responsive developer. If you're a serious player looking to log, and even analyze, thousands of hands in a particular format, nothing else comes close. No, it doesn't have cartoon characters who spout cliched sayings at you, as do most of the mass-market Hold'Em apps. But if you're really serious about Hold'Em, or want to be, this is the app to buy.

I very much like the extra speed and the ability to prefold, which makes it even faster.

Exactly what I've been searching for!

I've purchased several Poker games, but they never last long. This is the game I've always wanted. I don't want to play on-line with anyone. I don't want cute graphics. I sure as heck don't want to purchase chips! I just want to play proper 8 hand tournament-style poker with good opponents. Is the AI great? It works for me. I win against the easy ones and lose more as they get better. The playability of the game is by far the best I've seen. You can play as fast as you want. Good data too, if you like this. Great job guys!

If you're looking for an AI poker game where the opponents don't know the community cards pre-flop, keep looking. This isn't for you.

Great play and voice over accessibility
Dave728nc

I really admire when a developer makes a great game and makes it accessible. This is lots of fun and I can't stop playing it!

Strong AI, highly customizable and VoiceOver accessible
Alan925

In the default career mode, the player can progress through larger and larger tournaments. Placing in one tournament is required to buy into the next larger tournament. This will provide hundreds of hours of strong AI opposition. Stats, sending hand recaps and many custom options make this app an excellent poker learning tool. The app is VoiceOver accessible, users looking for this can purchase with confidence!

Hands best poker game out

If you're looking for a texas holdem game where the AI wont call an all in with a high card hand, it's finally here. Pros: AI is absolutely fantastic, incredibly realistic. -Great interface with plenty of options for gameflow and slick ways of calling/folding/betting, etc. -The AI allows more serious players a risk free method of enhancing their skills. -Very gratifying progression by building your bankroll to advance. -Different difficulty settings depending on your level of skill. -AI, we did go over how well the robots play poker didn't we? Cons- Very bland graphics and cosmetic effects. All substance, no flash. (However, even this could be viewed as a Pro since it's very battery efficient.) - The different game speed options doesn't allow you to make a seperate speed for how fast/slow the turn and the river cards come out, removing the suspense for the climax of a big hand. - Tournament games only, no cash game/sit and go options to build your stack. - Losing everything puts you back to first table, which you have to win to move back to the first tourney, which can get extremely tedious. Would be preferably to have the default 24 player tourney as the fall back table. Overall, THETA is really the only texas holdem game worth downloading if you're wanting some real non-live poker.

Flawed AI

I've been playing the Pro version of Theta Poker for at least six months so I've spent enough time with the app for an informed opinion. Perhaps I misunderstand the rave reviews about how great the "AI" is. What I can tell you from having played thousands of hands is that the system consistently appears to "cheat". It's unbelievable how often one of the players will raise before the flop with something like 8/3 unsuited and then catch two 3s and an 8 on the flop. It happens ALL THE TIME. I play only the hard difficulty level and am consistently frustrated by these fictional players not just catching lucky breaks, but catching the absolute luckiest breaks. It's one thing to be playing against a loose player who catches a break on the river card...you run into them in everyday life. But the players in Theta Poker routinely make terrible calls because they seemingly have knowledge of the upcoming cards. It's an exercise in frustration to continue to try to hone my own skills when I can't possibly beat the rigged system. I can't recommend this app as anything more than a way to pass time.
