Good game, nag ads make it unplayable

Draikeni

The pixel art is good. The sound is great. And the game is challenging in that old-fashioned, 8-bit way that rewards skill. However, the game frequently tosses a nag ad as you are furiously tapping away on the overworld, causing you to pause your game as the App Store loads. I find this unacceptable. After the third time one of these ads was slipped under my finger, I quit and uninstalled. To make this perfectly clear, part of the gameplay is to tap on zombies to earn coins for power-ups. During this section of the game ads for other games are appearing causing you too tap the ad, unless you have super-human reflexes to avoid it. Fun game ruined by shady manipulation ad placement.

More Ads than Game!

A fun little game

Octagonman

The game is a good way to pass the time. The puzzles are challenging later on and the levels are short, perfect for on the go spurts of playtime. The levels build on themselves really well and each zone has a different series of foes for you to overcome. There's always a catchy little 8-bit tune playing in the background and and the background art is really well done. The actual playing field is just a series of 8-bit platforms and enemies and your character is on a fixed track so the puzzles are just timing based. It's a shame that the different characters don't offer different abilities, but I guess that would defeat the purpose of this insanely simple game. My only major gripe with the game so far is the bug I noticed in the high school zone that effectively makes the level unbeatable, and therefore impossible to progress the game. If there are more of those, this game is going to have some series issues. It's worth playing, even if only a few times, since the game is exactly what it was intended to be: a simple little time based puzzler.
