Good idea

But all it does is crash.

Useless

lhillsrn

All it did was spin, spin, spin. Useless. Deleted.

????????

I thought this app would be bogus, but I LOVE the way it organizes everything! I've already recommended it to friends.

Good for organizing photos I guess...

The photo scoring is awful. It gave a black screen a higher score than an actual photo. Only good for organizing photos, also takes about a day to be ready to use fully.

Roll it is cool

I love that it lets gives you tag suggestions but unlike the desktop system for EyeM it doesn't let you automatically add them when posting to EyeM from TheRoll. That is to say unless I haven't figured that out yet. The scoring is weird but if that's what's been getting photos sold then I am for it.

An interesting concept with potential

I first read about this at Petapixel and was impressed enough to download it earlier today. So far, I'm impressed. Generally, The Roll is great at tagging my photos. It notices things that I somehow overlooked when tagging elsewhere. Once in a while it gets something humorously wrong, but it is in the early stages of learning, so I can forgive that. We all love to think we're great photographers and it is hard to be objective with our own work. The Roll is more clinical about how it grades photos. I wasn't under any illusions that I'm the next Ansel Adams but it was a little surprising to see that some photos I thought would be good were given mediocre or poor grades while others unexpectedly scored better. I'm curious to learn what the criteria for grading is on this point. The organization looks great! It is fun to explore my photos after getting them sorted, tagged and graded. Hopefully Apple will introduce some of these features in future iterations of Photos for iOs and Mac. The one thing I was underwhelmed by, perhaps unfairly, was the speed. I know The Roll was starting from scratch with over 600+ photos but it seemed like it took an awful long time for it to finally work through everything. This is the only thing I honestly dun The Roll for. Perhaps future versions of The Roll could be customized a bit more to make suggestions to users to help them improve their photography? A simple grade is a good start, but it doesn't help users like myself understand why Photo A scored lower than Photo B for example. The Roll is off to a good start and I look forward to future updates and tweaks to add to the user experience.

Neat Alternative Organization

The Roll has provided useful insights into the 1,500+ photos in my Camera Roll. While it is easy to pick nits with this initial release, as some have done, I see a strong base for development. I will be looking forward to improvements and additions. In the meantime, I appreciate tools already included in this free app.

Good start

To all those who complain that it takes too long and requires Wi-Fi, keep in mind that what this app is trying to do is extremely sophisticated and requires beefier computers than you have on your phone, so most of the heavy lifting is probably being done on their machines. This is a cool idea and the technology will only get better in the future, but this app as it is today is not ready. Like other reviewers have said, the accuracy is only so so, wavering between eerily astounding to laughably awful. It's kind of fun to see your photos sorted in strange and sometimes useful ways, but real humans don't tend to want too see all photos about, say, "water" together. Interesting to play with, but quickly deleted this app.

Cool; early days

It does a decent job rating photos but, of course, your mileage may vary. It's an algorithm, so don't take it to seriously but take a good look at the high scoring images. Grouping is ok but not perfect. On my iPhone 6s, the scoring took a while but on my iPad Air, it crashes a lot. This needs to be improved. My main suggestion would be to have a way to view a photo in The Roll and then open it for editing in Photos or Lightroom or another app.

Waste of time

Seaphome

It crashed so often I still don't know what it is supposed to do. I got rid of it the same day.
