It doesn't even let me search for my Emerson tv on my iPhone but on my boyfriends samsung the app works I don't get it?

I had a Samsung and the app worked great on my Sanyo tv but when I had to switch back to my old iPhone the Sanyo tv option was no longer there it would be great if you could add it.

I have this app on an ANDROID phone I no longer use and it works great!! I lost the remote to my blu ray player and this works perfectly! I was able to connect it to my regular 'old' (non-smart) LG TV to control volume and change outputs etc. I even connected it to my DIRECTV box so I was able to use this app as my DIRECTV remote... Now I downloaded the same app to my APPLE devices and I need an IR gateway device in order for it to work?!?! How come on ANDROID devices no such problems exist? you don't have to buy anything extra for it to work, it just works (when using the app on an android)!! Why do you need extra stuff for the apple version?!?

It works really well with my work phone (samsung galaxy note 4) but doesn't work with my iPhone.
