I love adding apples and when I started a subtraction unit I was excited to see Subtracting Sardines. It's a very simple concept but kids will play for hours. My only problem is that it allows kids to take away a larger number than they started with. Red sardines appear and the answer is a negative number. For a visual approach this doesn't work. It would be fine if we were hopping on a number line, but my first Graders don't understand that when you are dealing with real objects you can't take away more than you started with. Please add an option to lock negative numbers and I would give it 5 stars.

LOVE IT! I can't say enough about this wonderful app. This app is wonderful for easily, clearly and concisely teaching the math concept! Buy this now ... and, while you're at it, buy them all - Adding Apple, Subtracting Sardines and Multiplying Acorns. I promise you'll love 'em like we do.

Subtracting Sardines is a wonderful app that helps primary level students of students with special needs. The app has a simple design that younger students catch on to and enjoy. The only thing negative I can say about Subtracting Sardines is that it allows you to take away a larger number than you started with. Not a great idea for younger students or students that struggle. Don't let this little negative impact your decision to buy this app. It is well worth the money.

The modular approach of this app series is perfect. Switching apps helps our daughter visualize that we are doing a different concept, which is so helpful when first learning. It's great that the sardine visual is so different than the apples, because it really helps my daughter understand that it's a different process being performed. She thoroughly enjoys the graphics and giggles while learning math--how often does that happen!

This is by far the best app I have found for teaching subtraction to my son. It's cute and engaging, maintains my son's interest and very clearly demonstrates and teaches the skill ,

We have Subtracting Sardines and Adding Apples and the kids absolutely love them! They along with myself enjoy the positive reinforcements and funny characters that they don't realize they are actually learning something! I recommend all their apps (depending on age - as I am sure we'll be adding the Multiplying Acorns soon!) and enjoy watching your kids have fun and laugh/enjoy while learning math skills!!!

First of all, as some were saying, there is no option to block negative numbers. Second, unlike the multiplication, the user is not able to see the math problem above the answer. For example, in multiplication, there is 2x3 above the answer of 6, but in substraction answer of 3, there is no explanation of 5-2, something like that. I think being able to see the math problem is important rather than just the answer. So please fix them and i'll give you 5 stars. Thank you.
