Why is a companion app needed???

Takes too long to load. Too confusing. Smule edits are too busy. And just odd. I made an OC and suddenly my look and filter were completely different after someone joined my song. The new Smule is disappointing. Go back to former version.

I guess the smule app was never for the true musician. And this new style that ruined the original app with its Instagram-like video filters, proves it. Read on if you want to know how it works and why it’s terrible. Skip to the bottom if you don’t feel like reading this detailed description why styles is a waste of your time. When you go into the styles app with a video from Smule, you are faced with a longer version than the square that you thought was recording. So if anything was going on below that area, like maybe cleavage you hid, or maybe somebody recorded with no pants on, you are now going to be able to see that if the camera caught it. And that would be OK, I guess, if it was only your own video. But you can take ANY video with the person who joined you OR SOMEONE ELSE’S video entirely. Once you take that video to the styles app, now you’re able to see that person completely stripped of filters (audio and video) and in the long view. So you’re already trying to make peace seeing yourself stripped of filters and finally go and start playing with your video. You even start to have a bit of fun, adding back audio fx, adding you and your singing partner in sunglasses, Polaroid pictures, hearts, sun bursts...they really spared no expense in these areas. You almost start to forget that this is a singing app. Then you spend about 10-15 minutes making your video look kinda cool. And you think oh wow, this will be fun to give back to my friend and show them how I made a cool music video out of our old duet. Then you publish it only to find that this is not the case. This is not a post-production add-on app at all. This is pre-production ONLY. And then you think, this won’t affect the original app. I can still use it as I once did. THINK AGAIN. Now when you open Smule, and open a duet OC (open call) The “template” you by mistake just made shows up along with all the other new video filters/styles already provided by Smule. Kind of like when you download a filter in Instagram stories. Honestly, seeing myself without filters and then seeing all these new filters makes me not want to use filters at all let alone all the other features. So please, raise your hand if you wanted to be able to make a video of yourself before you make a video of yourself. If Smule styles app is supposedly a separate app, why is it infecting my original Smule? We should be allowed to use the original Smule app without this new, poorly developed idea literally tainting what we’ve been having so much fun with over the years. A lot of us just make music: we sing cover songs, we do group songs together with a like-minded community sometimes using 99 layers to make a song really creative. I am trying to keep my reviews only about styles app. But it’s difficult when You rolled out a forced update related to a separate app. It’s corrupted the smule app into being something we never asked for. TL:DR - A separate app, would’ve been great For those who might use it. Smule should’ve acted as songs for the new STYLES app. But instead the new STYLES app is poisoning the original app. In addition this should only be allowed in a post production if at all. Otherwise you risk privacy issues.

First let me say Smule Style Studio doesn’t work for me. Next I agree with so many other user that Style Studio is a privacy concern. We give Smule permission on Sing app but how is it okay to just make all of our performances visible to everyone in Style Studio? I have performances my child had done. I’d be greatly offended if someone chose to edit their songs. Smule has had too many inconvenient changes to the point where Sing app doesn’t seem fun anymore. The video fx and voice fx can’t be chosen separately for each performance which is a complete bummer. We want old Smule Sing back. Right when they changed the platform to video was as far as Smule should have ever gone.

Horrible breach of privacy

Everything is horrible. Sound, terrible, videos, terrible. The fact that anybody can change your videos and audio fx without your consent and publish it? Its the craziest breach of privacy I have ever seen from any apps developers. Smule is supposed to protect its community. Rather, they are giving room to scammers, hackers to edit our stuff easily. Imagining the teenagers who are using this app. Imagine the level of bullying they will face when their friends change their voice and put in on a website to tease them. Come on smule. You can do better than that. Your community is highly vulnerable right now.

This app is confusing and difficult to use. The original version of Smule Sing was much more user friendly. The additional app was unnecessary and the features are worthless.

as an introvert I hate this... I love singing and it took me a long time to gather the courage to sing with video but I only did it because I could hide behind a filter... I felt safe and was able to enjoy putting myself out there with the feeling of control... this "upgrade" is an absolute insult to people like me and I feel violated... I am petrified at the thought of someone being able to mess with my settings and even worse publishing it... I did not give permission for that and it should be considered a violation of privacy... and anyone can do it?... for free?... to any recording?... what is the point of paying vip?... this is giving me major anxiety and I can honestly say I don't even enjoy this app anymore... please change it back... bring back filters and respect them as recorded... also let each person choose their audio preference when joining someone like we used to on SMULE SING... we shouldn't need an extra app for anything... and we shouldn't all have to use the same audio effects either...not all of us have same microphones... phones... singing locations etc., it's absolutely ridiculous that I can't join anyone anymore and make a decent recording... it sounds awful... the idea of making "fun" videos should be an option... some of us don't care for it... not all of us are famous hungry... this app was my refuge from stress and now it just added some more... I've been a user for many years and this has been by far the worst update I've seen so far.

why WHY just WHY WOULD YOU MAKE ANOTHER APP WHY DO YOU THINK THIS IS FOR OUR OWN GOOD what good does this bring all this does it makes nothing good idk care why you think it’s good THINK ABOUT YOUR COMMUNITY WE WANT WHAT MAKES SMULE A GOOD SINGING APP you keep making these changes to the Smule app that I think your blinded by what you want to do with us DID YOU THINK WERE GONNA LIKE THIS TRASH?! IF YOU THOUGHT WELL TAKE THIS HUGE L Having people steal others work is gonna be a problem THIS IS WHY YOUR LOSING YOUR FANS YOU KEEP MAKING THESE DECISIONS THAT MAKES STUFF MORE DIFFICULT TO DO IN SMULE LIKE WHY DO WE WANT TO SEE WHERE PEOPLE LIVE IN THE WORLD WE DONT CARE ABOUT THAT THINK ABOUT WHAT YOUR DOING AND TALK WITH THE FANS ABOUT UPDATES AND GET FEEDBACK WHEN THE UPDATE IS BEING WORKED ON *inhales* every update that you make will destroy the Smule app oh and you should think about what’s GOOD for the app. And also here’s a tip so no one will see who you are in the future put a rubber band like a wide one around the camera
