Scopa meets Catan meets Starbase Orion.
Diebo_GC

Have you ever heard of the card game Scopa? If not, ask Mr. Google. Very popular in Italy. Take the ruleset for that card game, put onto a Catan-like hex-based map, where you seek to gain control of the hexes with your cards, and throw in the familiar icons, leaders, and graphics of the best handheld 4x out there--Starbase Orion--and you have Starbase Annex. A great little single-player game, with a progressively more challenging AI, that can be played on phone.

Boring

I am a huge fan of Starbase Orion but there is no progression of your character or card sets. No customization. Only more and more challenging enemies (didn't even beat the 3rd level on first try). Shocked how difficult it got. Honestly it just gets boring and being an SO fan I thought it would be more like that, but it is nothing like it except the familiar pixel art.

Awesome

Wow, just wow. Great mix of strategy and mortal kombat combat ladder!

UI is terrible
Armillanymphs

Was looking forward to this, but being used to card/board game adaptations from Playdek and the like, the UI is so clunky and frustrating. Once I got a better grip on it I found the gameplay simplistic, which isn't a bad thing at all. I hope the UI gets fixed soon (I would recommend a drag and place option).

Confused.

Not so much a game as is it a puzzle. The puzzle being trying to figure out how to play the darn thing. Most cryptic rules (if indeed the text I read is meant to be the rules) of any strategy game I've played. In fairness, it appears somewhat like it might be a decent game if I had a clue what was going on. As it stands I don't, so I have to give one star because as it is it's a useless app to me.

Engaging Play

Different, fun, and challenging game. Never an assured win even against easy AI's as you have to strategize with the cards you're dealt. Great game but 4 stars because tutorial and rules are weak. I had no idea you could put four cards in a sector! Get it anyway because once you figure it out you'll have fun.

Major disappointment

I loved Starbase Orion, it is one of my favorite iPad games. So I was excited to see this offering by the same developer. That excitement quickly turned to disappointment as I realized this game had none of the charm of its predecessor. A confusing system on rules, a thoroughly inadequate tutorial, and an unforgiving user interface combine to create a game that is long on frustration and short on fun. I recommend passing on this one.

Good, but needs basic improvements

Device: iPhone 6s, iOS 9.2 4/5: A fun card game with high replayability, high number of difficulty levels. The game has a slight UI and rules learning curve, but had a tutorial to compensate. Improvement Needed: There appear to be no back buttons in some menus (particularly the help (?) menu) forcing a restart of the game to get out of the menu. Not game breaking.
