Excellent Concept, Terrible Execution

thelastnerd

The first 60% of this game is a beautifully stylistic roguelite RPG with an interesting set of classes and abilities, a strange but intriguing storyline, and a punishing but fair level of difficulty which requires you to make your moves very precisely. I loved it. Then the bizarro portals came. The last 40% of the game is an RNGfest where strategic planning goes out the window and you just have to pray to RNGesus that multiple portals don’t end up getting placed close together and drown you in an endless flood of bizarro enemies. You’re forced to restart levels over and over again until the procedural-generation finally doesn’t screw you, and then for a brief, wonderful moment you’re back to playing the game you loved. Then you move to the next floor and it’s another coin flip. I’d love to know how this quirky story ends, but it’s not worth wading through the RNG chaos of the last couple levels. The really baffling thing is that the first half of the game has spider nests, but the devs (intelligently) put restrictions on them to prevent them from completely flooding a floor with spiders. Then they threw out all those restrictions for the bizarro portals.

My New Favorite!

Great game with a fun combat system, easy controls, nice interface, and lovely art. Easy to pick up and beat a dungeon or two in my spare time. Glad I picked it up.

It's all about the savage setting. There in the real game shows itself for the true brilliance that is Sproggiwood!!!

Best Roguelike on iOS

Gunner-Recall

Thank you for porting this game to mobile platforms. Sproggiwood has replaced my dated, match 3 crawl, light unfulfilling delves, and my one good Roguelike. For me what this game has done is clear up some space and offer great content all in one package.

Lost my game

Mo23ter

This was a very fun game till all my efforts disappeared. Very frustrating to work on this and have it go away. I want my money back.

Ok cool

Chucklehead666

Awesome game generally. Definitely too short for the price tag. Could take some lessons from roguelikes like stone soup etc in terms of dungeon diversity. Not too many enemy types and there is a sameness to most of the levels. The ironical narrative is really tip top and the graphics are awesome. The classes are cool but it's pretty lame that they're basically identical besides their special abilities, some of which just aren't really that useful from a gameplay perspective. I hope they keep the updates coming and flesh this out since it has a ton of potential.

Too short, otherwise perfect!

Beat the game way too quickly... For a $10 investment it was short lived. Yes it is replayable but the town building aspect is only aesthetics, the strategy is redundant given such a few levels. Worth $2-3 to me personally, would only suggest this if its on sale.

Amazing and very accessible

You should buy this game. I've always liked the idea of proper roguelikes, but have never been able to get good at any of them. Not only is sproggiwood one of the best roguelikes on ios, it's also very very easy to get into and play- plus, no iap which is a great change of pace. If you like fun, you should get this game

Simply Perfect!

I highly recommend this fantastic take on the rogue like genre. I absolutely devoured this game. What a gem! Inventive and crisp gameplay, unobtrusive yet engaging story! Play in short bursts, or binge play. I would love even more content from these devs.

Best Roguelike on iOS; One of the Best Roguelikes Ever

Glenn Ehrlich

Didn’t originally give this one too much thought, but then watching some Let’s Plays really convinced me that this was one of the best roguelikes ever. Certainly the most polished on iOS. What I like about it: - Persistant unlockables - Very interesting classes - Short playtime per dungeon (this is a very big feature for me as I don’t have a lot of time for games); you can play a dungeon in about 10 minutes.
