Spin Draw

Ever since the first time some clever person tied a pencil to the end of a string and drew a circle, we've loved to use mechanical tools to draw geometric designs.

Spin Draw is inspired by a mechanical drawing toy called the HOOT-NANNY from the 1920s. Two rods are attached to spinning wheels. The rods meet at a point that holds a pen, and the pen draws on a spinning piece of paper.

Spin Draw lets you explore a vast space of exciting, elegant designs, far beyond the capabilities of the HOOT-NANNY. Adjust the wheels and rods and watch the drawing evolve before your eyes. Create designs to share with friends, explore them as mathematical forms, or just sit back and watch the curve slowly emerge on your screen.

Spin Draw also offers a full range of sharing tools. Save your drawings as pixels or paths, or show them to friends on social media.

Nice little app

Fairly intuitive and I enjoy the mechanical aspects and concept of it all. Well done and represented.

Love this app. I had a Hoot-Nanny in the 50's and loved it.

Missing speed slider?
DavidCharlesVasquez

The preview in the App Store shows a speed slider but there is no speed slider in the app - just a label "Speed" with a blank spot to the right where the slider should be. Maybe this app was never tested on an iPad Air 2? Also it's frustrating that the lines are so thin - no way to control thickness? And the colors can't be changed without re-coloring what's already drawn - no way to use more than one color? Finally, no highlighting to show the current color. Not recommended until the developer fixes these issues.

Fun gadget
STL After Dark

This is one of those really cool apps that get so little attention that they are buried on the app store ... A real diamond in the rough!

4* for a reason
*Shazam666*

It has a habit of stopping when doing the designs, and you have to keep pressing the play button to restart. I’d like to be able to walk away awhile the design is in process. Otherwise I would have rated it five stars. By the way, I have an IPad Mini 4

Awesome physical math and art!

A real pleasure to use and mind-blowingly cool. Easily outclasses the other spiral / Spirograph apps. Super fun! I also love the lack of ads, in-app purchases, and donations to a great charity. This is the kind of app that made me fall in love with the App Store.

Love it.
Best planetarium software

This is software as it should be. Simple and elegant, lots of user options, fun to use. Kudos to the developer.

One of my favorite apps!

The patterns you can make with this app are amazing, and there is no end to their variety! Best spiral app ever!! UPDATE: Bravo! If the previous version was the prelude, then this is the main act! When I received the update notification, I was hesitant to do the update for fear that something would get broken. When I finally summoned the courage to update the app, I was delighted to discover that all my favorite features were still there, plus several new ones, all packaged in a much more comprehensive user interface. I particularly appreciate the deeper color palette, and the increment buttons which allow you to precisely set the speed of all the rotating parts. The resulting artwork is wonderfully complex and infinitely variable; vastly superior to any of the Spirograph apps. I have even used Spin Draw to generate high-tech looking artwork for brochures for my business! Thanks for a GREAT tool at a GREAT price! Two thumbs way up! :-)
