Exactly what Apple Arcade should be

I’ve already spent several hours on this game that should sell itself. Definitely one of the top arcade games out there. Spot on controls, no level of frustration, challenging, close to 400 events, single player, and most importantly lots of fun. Speed Demons deserves a sequel, and this game alone is worth the entire Apple Arcade subscription itself. At 10 years old, 30+ years ago, I’d spend the day at the arcade and that would cost $15 alone. The entire subscription for 100 plus games for $4.99 a month. Think about that.

This is a great game. There’s just one problem. In any mode, sometimes trucks and enforcers get stuck on you. Even if I tap to get going again, it doesn’t work. I just sit there. In escape mode, I slowly get damaged until I die. PLEASE FIX THIS. I will rate a five star if this is fixed.

This is one of the best games on Apple Arcade. It’s simple to learn, really fun and a great time killer. I would definitely not recommend controller as the touch controls work much better. Overall, the devs nailed it on this one.

First of all, it disgusts me that you would make this game portrait mode, much less not let us choose. Second, the controls are terrible. I will be in the final stretch of a level and then randomly my car will starts smoking and spin out and then I’ll get cornered on the right wall and won’t be able to move.

I dowloaded this game because I didn’t know what to download and gave this a chance on a random whim. I was taken by surprised how much I enjoyed the competitive aspect of the game and how many levels made me go back and give them another go to improve my time or best my record. The mechanics of the game are well design and give way to actual skill development. With all this being said I gave it 3 stars for a few reasons. 1 - aesthetics. The game is very “minimaly” designed as if was made by a color blind person. I understand that enemies need to stand out but a constant grey, white and black gives the game a dull feeling as you play it. 2 - Music. Oh lawrd!! the music choice is by far the worse offender. It is techno genre is enjoyable in no level. It sounds like it was composed on a synthesizer from the 70’s. It’s too high pitched. It’s like the music from wipe out but much much more high pitched. There are also no sound effects for anything that’s happening on the game so I just play it on mute. 3 - Lack of abilities or powers. When you’re on wreck mode you get to launch this “cannon ball” at the enemies and this make it fun. But that is all you get. No booster, turbos, projectiles, shields, I mean nothing that throws any added excitement to the game.
An average shoot em up disguised as a driving game

Like an old school c64 or SNES shoot em up but with none of the charm or game play. It’s not the best control mechanism or UX. Often I find the best ergonomic place to control your vehicle is also where your vehicle is, meaning you can’t see it because your thumb or finger is over the top of it. Or you end up hiding some of the obstacles/traffic. Sometimes the track rotates just at the wrong time to cause conflict with steering, not in a game mechanic kind of a way, just the frustrating game design kind. Highly repetitive game play. Not much point in having different levels or upgrades it’s all mostly the same grind.
