Space Shuttle

This is SPACE SHUTTLE, with full instructions at www.X-Plane.com. Based on the X-Plane engine, SPACE SHUTTLE lets you really get some cool bits of the Space Shuttle experience, in completely real-time simulation. Nothing is compressed or made unrealistic, but instead the 8.5-minute launch (to 400,000 ft) and last 12 minutes of re-entry (from 200,000 ft, Mach-10) are accurately represented.

Here are the options:

->Launch: This option lets you WATCH the launch in real-time, from 10 seconds left in the count-down, through orbiter-roll, through SRB-separation, though External-Tank separation, right through to low-orbit insertion, at 17,500 mph at 400,000 ft. You won't FLY this launch, but the times and speeds and events are accurately laid out for you to see, so you can finally see what happens AFTER the shuttle leaves sight of the cameras on it's flights to space! REALISTIC depiction of the Earth is included, including realistic atmospheric visibility and Earth curvature, so you can see what the view is REALLY like when riding a rocket from sea-level to 400,000 ft.

->ISS Docking. This is a docking sim that gives you full freedom in all 6 dimensions: X, Y, Z, Pitch, Heading, and Roll... This is as tricky as space-flight gets, and YOU will attempt to dock with the ISS... can you handle it? Shuttle and ISS geometry and docking-points are rendered accurately, so you will see the real scale and geometry of both craft.

->Final Approach: Now THIS is one you can FLY like a plane! You will be placed at about 18,000 ft, about 10 or 15 miles short of the runway at Edwards... you will fly clear down to landing on your own! Any decent flight-simmer should be able to handle this one, no problem.

->Near and Distant Re-Entries: THESE are ones that you can fly yourself, and these ones are tricky! I can do them, though, so I know you can, too! You will start off as far as about 600 miles out, at 200,000 ft, Mach-10, well above almost all of the atmosphere, and guide the Orbiter down, by hand, clear to Edwards. The instrumentation in the cockpit is similar to the instrumentation in the real Orbiter, so you will be following the speed, energy, and altitude curves from 200,000 ft all the way down to landing as you S-turn through the stratosphere at Hypersonic speeds. (I am not even slightly kidding or exaggerating. That is the re-entry procedure). Along with pretty accurate instrumentation, help-tips are presented to you in real-time, during the re-entry, to help guide you down, so you should be able to handle it, with enough practice, even if you are not currently familiar with shuttle re-entry procedures. Once you get some practice and get good enough, you will actually start your GLIDE at 600 miles out, 100 miles up, Mach-10, and hand-fly the glider clear to touch-down right on the runway, all in real-time, with pretty accurate physics. It is unlike any plane you have ever flown, or any game you have ever played, but I can do it every time, and one astronaut has hand-flown the entire procedure (rather than leaving it to the autopilot) one time in the history of the shuttle program.

Can YOU do it?

Fire?????
campanella123

On reentry my shuttle sets on fire and apparently crashes into the ocean when im still in space!!!!!! Fix this u ripoffers!!!!!

SO STUPID
Jacder

dont buy this it doesnt let you do anything i mean it makes you wait like 8 min to watch lift off and you dont do anything rip off i cant believe i spent 2 dollars on it

Awesome app
JJB0921

This is a great app. But it should be free today in honor of the last shuttle launch (space shuttle Atlantis) the shuttle has had an awesome 30 year run. This app (along with f-sim shuttle) may be the only ways left people can realistically relive the launches and landings easily. Show your respect for the shuttle legacy and download this app. R.I.P. Space shuttles Enterprise, Challenger, Columbia, Discovery, Atlantis, and Endeavor.

Awsome
Title-Wave Hauge

The games great just on small thing if you can, can put some more space shuttles in it thanks:)

This app is amazing - please read .

I'd like to list a few things. Pros: Realistic, ignition starts on the mark. Dock is great. Shuttle burns up like it would if you don't do it correctly. Many things to try . Cons: Landing should have a parachute. There is no playback, I'd really like one on the landing. The speed on the left (in cockpit during launch) doesn't match mph. This app should be free during the STS-135 Atlantis mission. But great job Laminar Research .

Hard to find a good nickname

I think this is a great space shuttle simulation. The menus are easy to navigate, (at top of screen) so you can choose different missions. It is very realistic, so if you get the wrong angle on re-entry, you will burn up like a shooting star. I think that the docking with the ISS is hard, and could be made easier, but it is realistic. The full re-entry is fun, but you land in a desert, which I think could be changed. The full launch is really realistic.

Great app but some found some problems
Zerex71

I've had this app for a while and am running it on the latest and greatest iOS software and firmware on my iPhone 3GS but am having some problems. Here's what I've found: - On liftoff, it is impossible for me to view of the shuttle stack itself through any of the views! What happened? - I have trouble with the landings because it seems like the final approach and flare are hard to control. It could just be me but it seems like no matter what happens, I can't control the sink rate enough and I crash-land all the time. Other than that, it's a lot of fun. I tried the full entry recently and it seems like the re-entry is easier to control. I'd follow the alpha=40 schedule pretty religiously before and without doing a lot of S-turns and getting off the compass bug, I'd overheat in no time. I think it's a lot of fun, so please keep improving it!

Manual controll
SHOESHINE!!!

I wish we had more manual control of like the separation and stuff and reentry needs to be a bit easier because the real space shuttle can be flown manually and auto;)

I wish I could give 0 stars
Good app, get it

DO NOT BUY

Please update
AuroralKilometricRadiation

Dear Laminar Research this app is a good start but could really use an app update. Upon reading other comments there are clearly four great opportunities. 1. Having manual control of take off 2. 747 piggy mission and free flight 3. Hubble repair mission 4. Parachute and more landing locations There are a lot of negative comments and it's not motivating to you the developers but there are also devoted fans of space shuttle who have been waiting. It is upsetting to see other x plane franchises getting updates while this one doesn't. Please don't leave us hanging.
