I’ve been looking for an app to replace Solitaire 4Ever, which has not been updated in a while and is now crashing under the latest OS. Sadly, Solitaire City is not yet that replacement. It has many of the right features, but there are a handful of shortcomings that make it frustrating and unplayable. 1. Clicking cards that play on an ace stack should not automatically place them on the ace stack, as that card might play elsewhere on the board more more beneficial to your game. 2. The buttons at the top of the window are clumsily placed. I can’t tell you how many games have restarted because of accidentally hitting NEW. It is nearly impossible not to sometimes accidentally hit the NEW and Settings buttons when in landscape views. Annoying!!!! This is the biggest drawback of the game that makes it unplayable. 3. Having to drag cards, or to click the source card and destination row, to make a play is unnecessarily slow. I might as well be playing with a real deck. A simple double-click should do the trick. 4. In landscape mode, longer rows put the bottom cards off the screen, making it difficult to move them to the ace stacks or to another row. The longer rows should resize so they are all fully onscreen. 5. The firework ending when winning takes too long and is annoying. Conversely, turning it off makes the win unsatisfactory with still a few annoying prompts that you must tap through to play again. 6. Scoring should default to off as it too gets in the way of finishing a game. 7. It would be nice to have a HINT button to see if there are any plays you missed. 8. There should be a free version of the app with ads or limited play so you don’t have to waste your money to realize that the game is unplayable. If it turns out you actually like the app, then you could pay for it with an in-app purchase. This is fairly standard for apps.

Hey this is a fun way to pass time when you have to wait for a doctor’s appointment, your kids, an egg to cook...whatever. So why not play? No downside just downright fun.
