Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
The whole smartthings ecosystem is pretty great. But, they need to improve certain things to make the app really shine. The whole marketplace UI is pretty difficult to understand and navigate. There’s really no clear explanation for what features do what and which devices are compatible. Also, they should be able to support all features for any z-wave enabled device. Also, one of the most annoying things for me, is that for my AC they don’t have a way to automate setting it to “fan on”. Hopefully they bring all this in in the new app they’re making.
I just had to convert to a Samsung id... what normally would have been a painless process with Microsoft or Apple products was a textbook example of lazy product management and poor QA . For example... - click on a info icon about a policy and the user registration form gets wiped - app attempts to login to my gmail acct instead of handing off to app - took me a lot of attempts to set pw because validation said didn’t match when the problem was something else If you can’t get user registration right how am I supposed to trust you with my house? I have samsung appliances but honestly this experience is making me lose faith n all your products.
I moved recently and had to switch routers and reset a bunch of smart lights and outlets. I had trouble getting them to work again, and reluctantly (because I usually think of help as “helpless”) contacted the SmartThings support team - twice. And to my pleasant surprise, they helped me get my lights and outlets and hub all working again. I’d love lots of improvements to the app, especially around scheduling and routines, but really happy with support. Maybe I will ask them for help on routines too.
This thing has been a constant disappointment. Devices constantly disconnect. Many important features on things like door locks dont work. Now some horrible required transition to a new app which requires a new account that has me locked out of my device. Don’t buy SmartThings.
It seemed good for about 2 days then we left our condo and went home. Now the door lock status always says “unknown”. Doesn’t really good the secure feeling we were hoping for. Since we are 4 hours away now can’t really check on it manually.
SmartThings app is great, i love the convenience, I don’t have to use my key, I really love this product
The system is honestly junk. I dumped over $1000 into what sounded great to help while deployed overseas but it’s useless. The range of sensors is limited to under 50 feet and cannot go through a single exterior wall or 2 interior walls. With the alarm, the motion sensors have false alarms every 5 seconds. After the false alarm additional alerts (like an actual break in) are not monitored at all rendering the whole system useless.
