Was ok until the ai started to cheat

Leave2die

Game would suddenly start lagging ai's stones would move two at a time. I would get atari'd where it never had enough stones. I lost a game I should have won because it made an illegal move that wiped my stones from the board even though there's no way he got in the gaps in one move. Please fix this. It was a great app until the cheating and move stealing happened.

Wrong game bought

Thought this game was reversi. Wanted Reversi

Meh

Coeurmudgeon

I wanted to play GO with my son interactively through game center This app does not do that. I often ( by computer resignation ) win, but have no idea why. Do not find that instructive at all.

good AI

SmartGo should be a model for software designers: it is beautifully designed for people who want to learn Go. Only caveat: it can be addictive :-)

Good tutorial, bad game

Taznak

SmartGo's tutorial teaches you the basics of Go well. I would say it's great, except a couple of the examples are poorly explained (for instance, in ex. 86 it's not at all clear to a beginner why white is dead). Besides the tutorial, SmartGo is pretty lackluster, especially since it cheats. When you end up with three quarters of the board plus 7 prisoners but SmartGo claims it won by half a point with its one quarter of the board and no prisoners, playing against this AI becomes pointless.

Never cheat. Please read the rules

Trungdle

Some players claim that the AI cheated on them, I have been playing with SmartGo for a while and aside from losing all the time, I have never seen the AI cheats. When you captures stones you are allowed to put in impossible places, but I guess nobody read the rules and started to complain.

Great teacher but...

Phatlump

I started with the lessons and did ok, but some places were not understandable to me though. They should add some better explanations. After the lessons I tried to play Al, but obviously I'm terrible as of yet. The game always insists it won by 29 1/2 points... EVERY TIME. Even when the outcomes were totally different (to me). And I played a game that the Al double moved on its turn. I thought it cheated until I backed up and saw the Al place a stone between two of mine, capturing both. LOL

good time learning to play

karakira

i'm really slow to pick up on Go but i love the game and SmartGo has been of more help than any tutorial. i simply keep playing, making moves not necessarily to win but to see the results, sometimes self-explanatory e.g. i didn't see a capture coming, or other times i need to back up a move and turn on the graph territory overlay before and after i drop a piece & SmartGo responds. i sometimes wish there were "opponent difficulty" settings for the "AI" but that's probably silly since you can (auto or manual) handicap. i learn a lot playing with a 5 stone handicap (i need 6 to compete hehe) then using hints for a follow-along example of how to win with a handicap i can't sustain yet. i play every day and learn and lose and win and laugh and punch my mobile in the face etc.. wonderful app.

Great app for learning the game

It has helped me a lot

Please update with modern go AI

andrewljohnson

Modern go AI such as Facebook’s Dark Forest play much stronger than SmartGo, easily Dan level. Even just the eval methods of neural net based bots outperform old style Monte Carlo bots.
