Good Representation

This a fun and accurate representation of the card game. It would get 5 stars if the card reveal was able to be done one at a time. It's too quick as it is and loses some of the drama/anticipation. Also, it would be nice if there was a multiplayer option ( not just the solitaire version).

Shout out to the programmer

This 5 star rating is all about praising the talents of Slapshot programmer Greg Barnard, a real 5 star guy. Hats off to Greg, the best teammate I could ask for. Grant Dalgliesh Columbia Games

Such fun, and funny too

This faithful adaptation to the class card game of the same name, is a real hoot to play. My first game I was a bit unclear on a few points and the game was doing its best to warn me; along the lines of "I think that's a very bad decision". Other game play sound effects are often hilarious, coming at just the right moment. The game play itself it simpler than other card-driven strategy games I've tried. I like that. There is still plenty of meat in this game and a lot to learn to master it. To that end, I too would appreciate if the card play in a game could be slowed down or even set to manual so we could get the full impact. It goes by so fast that a new player needs to be sure to go back and closely look at the results. Each game gives you the opportunity to scout the other teams in the league, and you need to pay attention if you want to win. There are two other options available to a player during a turn. The player can also trade a player card with other teams or draft a new player from the pool of prospective phenoms, washouts, and recovered injured players. Just like in the real sport, there are enforcers, sending players who face them, even when scoring a goal, to the bottom of the draft pool to appear later in the game at a full strength. This all leads to a very fluid situation, with other players initiating trades that can't be avoided, sudden holes in the lineup that are filled from the draft pool and players reentering the pool by being dropped from the majors during the draft. This fluidity is especially apparent in Playoffs, if your team can make it that far. There are no more trades or drafts and holes in your lineup are replaced with the players at the top of the draft pool deck. The app itself is packed with information about the players' performance during the season, something that would be worthwhile to pay attention, to guide trades and draft decisions. You can reorder your cards before each game, and before overtime periods. Besides that, once the puck is dropped the result is left to chance, and your ability to predict your opponent's lineup. I found it a bit tricky at times to get the cards to move correctly. It seems that a small initial vertical gesture makes it so the whole page doesn't move when attempting to shift the card order. I see multi-player enhancement coming to this game in future releases. I'm no prognosticator and may just be expressing my hopes out loud. This well-made game deserves wider exposure and although simple, has great depth, great humor and great potential.

Slapshot is a fun beer & pretzels card game about hockey team management.

Put together your dream team via drafts and trades in hopes of eventually winning the cup. Gameplay is quick and easy to pickup. Each turn it is up to you to decide if you want to draft a new player (basically discard a player and draw a new card), trade with another team (you get to draw a random card from his team and then need to trade him one of your players for it), or play a game against one of the other teams. Another player can never refuse a match or trade, but by the very manner of how trades work, you still might end up on the losing end. With your team of 6 players (each given a numerical value of 0-9) to then engage the other players in quick 6 round matches of War. Every challenge won in a match is a goal for the winning team and the team with the most goals wins the match (in case of a tie the two teams go into sudden death with the next goal scored winning the match). While the play isn't super deep there is still a fair amount of strategy. If you want to spend a turn mucking around trying to improve your team, it only means another opportunity to win a match is lost and winning the most matches in a season is the only way you'll ever make it to the playoffs and then, in a 7 game series against the second place team, hope to win the cup! Also, even if you have already formed the near perfect team of all high valued players, the other players will be more likely to spend their turns forcing trades against you or engaging you in matches in hopes of injuring (a small handful of players in he game are considered bruisers and, even if they lose in a player to player matchup, the other player is immediately discarded and replaced with a new random draw) some of your super studly 8 and 9 point players. By the same token, if your team is pathetic, going up against a player with multiple bruisers could be a cheap way for you to replace multiple players in a single turn. All in all good fun with but it is iPhone only and lacks any sort of career stats (once you finish a season, that's it). The dev promises some sort of career stat tracking in an upcoming update once he gets more feedback on the type of stats we players would most like tracked.

Lots of fun to play

Its Ok...but not that original...

Slapshot is a fun little hockey card game. The object is to win your "war-like" card games to get to the playoffs to win overall. With constant changes of drafting free-agent players and some trading involved, you hockey card team is ever-changing. Also, the intangible aspect of the "bruiser" card is also a very nice feature. The developers have used wacky player names and there is some nice artwork for what the cards are all about. (is there an expansion card update on the horizon?) A small company Whitewind games published this actual card game and had the backing of Alan Moon way back when, originally called Phantoms of the Ice. It is basically the same game...and now I can play it electronically. The one flaw that I seem to discover is ..there is no "save" mechanism. If you in the middle of a season and have to turn off and try to come back, you have to start all over again....This ..I hope can get fixed..hence only my 3 star rating. ULtra Marroons

Great game

Grew up playing the card game and love playing this addition. Only thing missing is some of the players like Guy Whiz, Iron Orr, and Slap Happy. Love to see them added in a future update.

This is a fantastic app that is just like the board game. My friends and I wore the game out. I wish all the funky rule changes we made could be added like - 1. Tiny Tim not only scored on all goaltenders but checked all defensemen. 2. If a player was rated 3 over the goaltender he came up against he scored. 3. Le goon not only knocked out the player he was up against but also the next player as well. Thank you Columbia games for making this game.
