As of 11/2017, it’s not quite real

What this purports to do is capture a sound in the image of a waveform. This is not science fiction level stuff. At very low quality this is very doable. However, to get a recognizable voice, what they’re actually doing is storing the audio on a server and linking the image of the tattoo as a key with photo recognition. The actual image of the tattoo does not necessarily contain matching audio information. It just unlocks a sound in the cloud. This is a huge letdown. However, the website’s FAQ does mention some work on a system which genuinely can read the image of a waveform. Also, the site promises archival of all sound files so that they will always be playable. Still, I will not consider this a genuine app until it can actually read a waveform written on a piece of paper without any prior linking.

My moms voice forever on my arm

I Love Love Love my Soundwave tattoo. I got it just in time for my moms birthday. She passed away earlier this year and it’s been really really heartbreaking not having her around. Looking at her picture is not the same as actually hearing her voice. I love that I can glance down at my arm and see the sound wave of my mom saying hi and that she loves me. It’s so bittersweet. Thank you for making this so special. The app works great and I can’t wait to show this to my family on my moms birthday!

Wonderful!

This is such an amazing idea someone had. I got my soundwave tattoo yesterday with Jen Kelso and I’m definitely in love with it - having my lil brother’s voice on my arm saying that he loves me is the best thing ever!

Thank you for making a cool idea, incredible!

I can’t give SkinMotion enough accolades for this cool concept. Years ago, I recorded my daughter saying, “I love you, Daddy” with the intent of having the waveform be my first tattoo. I sat on it for a few years to make sure it was something I really wanted. Then I saw the ad for SkinMotion on Facebook. “THATS IT! I’M DOING IT!” So, I did just that. Such a cool idea and innovative way to weave in technology. No, the app isn’t reading the waveform like some crazy Bladerunner-like future tech. It works like a QR code does and references the audio you upload to SkinMotion’s cloud. Very cool stuff! I have no idea why other reviewers are complaining about that process. Don’t get one of your looking to take part in future advanced warfare. Thank you SkinMotion from taking my cool idea from 4 years ago and making it incredible today!

LOVE IT!!!

This app is what bring the tattoos to life. This is the future of tattoos and I’m happy to be one of the first people to have got myself a soundwave tattoo to use with this amazing app! I can finally hear my family’s voice and the inspiring quotes they have to say with me no matter where they are and always and forever. Thank you SkinMotion! And continue to grow and expand to the best of your ability!

It’s not actually playing the tattoo

SimonSaysTruth

Don’t be fooled into thinking that it’s actually playing the tattoo. The sound is stored on a server on the internet and it just associates that unique image of a tattoo to that sound. You have to use their app to play the sound. If they cease to exist you will no longer be able to play your permanent tattoo...
