Have you ever wondered what notes are being sung, what chords are backing up the singer, or how high that crazy trumpet line leaped up? If so, Sing That Note! can help you begin to hear these musical elements. All these listening skills are based on the recognition of one all-important note: the tonic, the syllable do, the key note or scale degree one (it goes by many names). Test yourself to see if you have recognized the tonic note in real music as played by live musicians. Just listen to a musical phrase and sing the note you believe to be tonic back into your iPhone. Sing That Note! then analyzes your singing and tells you if you have hit the correct note or not.

Sing That Note! is ideal practice for music students in aural skills (ear training) classes. Based on the latest Music Theory Pedagogy, this app tests the recognition of tonic as a "contextual listening" task--the recognition of musical elements in the context of real music played by live musicians.

Sing That Note! A must have app for anyone who wants to hear more in the music they love!

Not worth trying

After going through the quizzes a singing the CORRECT pitches the app did say one was correct. Not a good training tool.

Anything more than tonic?

I wish there more options. It would be nice to have "sing the dominant" as well. The pitches registered correctly for us except when we sang the wrong pitches. I liked that it told us WHAT was wrong.

Great App!

With not many singing/listening apps that apply to AP Music Theory, this is a great one for listening and finding tonic…by singing it! Love this app. Thank you for developing this!

Great for all kinds of music analysis and enjoyment

Gills wildly successful music theory site, Gmajormusictheory.org, is a great site for recognizing music Siri and real music. An essential site for preparing students for the advanced placement music theory exam in high school. Now Mr. DeBenedetti has outdone himself with this app that teaches musician the essential skill of recognizing tonic and a musical excerpt. Once you figure out what tonic is and a selection, you can answer all kinds of questions like what's the cadence, form, Melodic properties, and much more. The app itself plays a musical selection and then tells the listener whether they are singing the correct tonic note or not. All you have to do is seeing as you're holding down the microphone icon. This is what happens when a master teacher takes the time to develop an app that helps students across the country.

Love it!
