I’ll just state the facts of my experience. I signed up on May 15 and the full annual membership cost of $83.40 was deducted from my account. As of today, July 19, I have not received a physical card in the mail. Their “cardless activation” feature through the app is faulty and I have been unable to get it to work. At this point, I don’t even want to bother. Customer support has been unresponsive. Three weeks after signing up, I simply emailed them asking about the status of my card. And over 2 months later, not a word from them. How can a company operate this way? The only positive thing I’d say is that the developers have been updating the app pretty frequently and the interface is better than some other apps out there. But that leaves me confused... how about us customers who are paying the cost of an annual membership upfront and are unable to start using it?! As soon as I filed a claim with my bank, I signed up for Moviepass. That was last Wednesday. A couple days later on Friday, I received an email stating that my card is on the way and I should receive it within 2 weeks. To my joy and surprise, I received my card in the mail today. From the day that I signed up, I got my card in 6 business days!!! 6!!! And it took 1 second to activate it on the app! I already had it downloaded, so all you have to do is manually enter the digits on the card or take a picture of the card and it will read it, which is what I did. Sooo easy. I purposely waited to see how long Moviepass would take before I share my horrible experience with Sinemia. My friend has had the same experience, if not even more frustrating since he emailed them 3 times and never got a response either. So shady. The recent positive reviews are obviously fake and sound so generic, all bashing on Moviepass. Umm why don’t you provide us with some details? I genuinely hope my review had helped some people who were considering signing up with Sinemia, just because they offer cheaper plans. Oh which by the way, they lowered the price again. Trade off- you have to pay the annual fee upfront. I’m making monthly payments for Moviepass, which makes more sense to me. I don’t care if you sign up with Moviepass or not.. I have yet to reap the benefits. But there’s a high chance you’ll regret having chosen Sinemia just because they offer lower pricing. This company is a joke.

Mobile app froze often time and what said in the clickable buttons did not truly represent the function. Careless members were forced to always pay extra $1.5 for every single ticket from time to time for no apparent reason.

Be aware that you are going to pay $100 up front, this is not a month to month payment of $10. Also you will only be able to see 2-3 movies a month for what you pay. Yes the benefit is that you can see IMAX and the sort, but trust me the hassle is not worth it . Using the card less function on the app is not the simplest and getting ahold of any type of customer service is not easy in any sense. My advice would be skip this and go with Moviepass for 1 movie everyday at most theaters for a lower price.

**UPDATE BELOW**The worst experience I have ever had with any kind of service. I have ended up having to pay for my ticket 5 times out of 9. They don’t care or help within any amount of time that’s useful. The first two times I tried to use it it didn’t work and had to buy my own ticket. This happened again and again. After A theater refused to accept the card i was still charged to my account even though I had my ticket purchase to prove i paid for the ticket. And they didn’t even have the right theater chain! They said I was at an amc (that accepts the card) but I was at a landmark (arthouse) that refused the card. They never credited me for this. It worked at one theater and I was able to retrieve my ticket (Miracle!) only to have them charge me a fee for not picking up the ticket! I tried again to use it only to have the app say I can only have 3 movies a month. Looking at my account IN THE APP it showed I had only purchased one! I was Always taught one was less than three! I have asked them to cancel my account several times over the last two months. They ignore every request and this month I was charged twice! DO NOT JOIN THIS HORRIBLE, CRIMINAL “service”. It will cost more than buying the tickets yourself as you will still Have to buy most tickets yourself and still Be charged. And charged for Tickets they did cover too! And watch your bank account for multiple duplicate charges. Not mention the anger and headaches you’ll subject yourself to. What they call “premium support”??? What a sadistic joke. Only email. And you have to wait DAYS for an answer. And usually they ignore what you say causing you to have to write back and forth. I’m still trying to resolve a problem from two months ago!! Not to mention every other problem they have NEVER even addressed! They respond to your emails/problems by sending a “ticket resolved” email so you have to start all over again as they have addressed NOTHING! I now have to work with my bank to Get whatever money back I can. I am also finding it VERY SUSPICIOUS that they suddenly have all these great reviews. And they are one right after another which is also odd. When I first wrote this review most of the reviews were like mine. They app was very low rated. Sure there could have been improvements. But my most recent problem dealing with their emails is still being ignored so I doubt things have really improved. And the grammar and writing style of many of these new reviews? Suggests padding to me.

Very clunky to use. Sign up doesn’t mention that they charge for a year up front and you have to use a 3rd party system which has an additional fee.


Options abruptly disappear from the screen

The worst part of this subscription service is that there is no live customer support. You might be in a theater or online booking website holding your seat but the app and service suddenly stops working and sometimes they change the deal no matter what u have signed up for a YEAR. Great part is customer support replies to anything after a week long after your plan to watch movie. I feel stuck!
