Minimalism is good.

ShotShotShoot relies on the skill and interaction of players, while providing a balanced, yet simple base. It is necessary to play against a human, as the most fun with these types of games is to observe your opponent and shift yourself as he is shifting. This is a beautiful game, in the way that few games are beautiful. Aesthetically, it's great in its minimalism. The audio is nice, but I am one to turn down the audio of any game. The gameplay itself is the wonderful thing: it is balanced and simple, and it is minimalistic such that almost all emphasis is on the human to human interaction and in providing a non-intrusive platform for such interaction. The only complaint I have so far is the "dead zone" where one loses control of his dots. Once a player moves his finger into this zone, he cannot regain control of the dot. I realize that this may exist because of the nature of the single-screen setup, but it would be nice to extend the interactive zone, or at least to give a more noticeable cue that the player has moved into the dead zone.

Wish I'd bought this earlier

Great use of the openFrameworks programming library to create a game that stretches in new directions. It plays sort of like a two player missile command. A lot of fun and easy to learn. This game runs fine on my fully updated iPad as of January 2011.

Shot!

MyComments

My favorite two player iPad app. Easy to play, tricky to master, and so much fun to sneak a shot through the opposition's defenses.

Not much here

Succendo

Bought this after seeing it in The Daily. Not much to be said here - think extremely-fast-paced multiplayer Missile Command. The problem is, the pace is too frenetic and random to be able to play strategically. I can beat the computer 100% of the time by frantically tapping the screen in the first two seconds, or 0% of the time if I try to play strategically. The concept is good and the multiplayer may be fun (haven't tried it yet), but there's zero depth and a serious lack of fun.

Super fun!!

Shot Shot Shoot is best enjoyed with a real live human opponent who's into having fun and getting competitive -- or better yet, a whole crew of them!! I played in the Shot Shot Shoot tournament at the Kill Screen Scandinavia party at GDC this year and had a ton of fun, because I was playing against people who were motivated to get into the game, and were also in the spirit of having a good time. Shot Shot Shoot truly takes advantage of the iPad's potential to connect humans to humans, not just humans to interfaces. Try it out, and remember to have a friend handy when you do!

I would feel cheated if I downloaded this for free, but I had to pay money for it. Imagine my anger.
