Shogi Demon XL (Japanese Chess)

Shogi is Japanese Chess.
Category Price Seller Device
Games $3.99 NUTRACTOR iPad

The difference between this and regular Chess is that the player is allowed to reuse the pieces captured from the opponent for themselves.
With exceptions to the King and the Gold, any pieces that enter the zone of the opponent can be turned over to increase their range of movement.
Positioning 2 or more Pawns on a vertical line is not permitted if the Pawns are not turned over.
Also, although it is possible to put a King in mate with your own Pawn, it is not permitted to put a King in mate with a Pawn captured from your opponent.
This is because such act is an insult to the King.

- In the shogi board mode, it is possible to play man face to face.
- Three computer levels.
- 22 kinds of handicaps.
- Position editor.
- There is a guide that informs player of a possible movement of the pieces.

Reviews

Great shogi app
Oda79

This app has been great helping learn shoji. Although there are no lessons (hint hint developers), playing the computer has taught me a lot. I also enjoy the saving feature. I can go back and review the parts of a game where I started losing or winning. I can even open up a saved game and play at those critical moves to play out a different outcome, although when you do that you have to play both sides. It would be nice if the AI would be able to play the other side. Anyway, it's a great game and app!!!

Best App to Learn Shogi
Big RaZuGi

I tried couple of apps to learn Shogi, and I found that this app with its Eastern Mode to be the best way to learn the Rocks Moves in both Normal and Promoted states... Also, the Visual Control of Rocks in both Normal and Promoted states makes reading the grid and analyzing next steps much easier... One opportunity for improvement in the next versions, is to have the Option of Hints available... Thx again for the great app ?

Computer player locks up
Tk2166

This would be a great app if the computer player didn't lock up six moves into the game.

Almost the best shogi app
TheRootBeerKing

This is a really well done app, it has local multiplayer on one iPad and Vs Ai. The graphics are the best out of any of the shogi apps and there are some nice features for practicing the game. My only complaint is there is no online mode. If I could play this game over the Internet with my friends(like chess with friends) this would be THE Shogi app for iOS, however it's not there, sadly...So only 4 stars. I hope the developers consider adding some sort of online multiplayer either play by turn or real time.
