Proof that study can be fun

Bob in Tokyo

If memory serves, I think I was exposed to some sentence diagramming starting in elementary school, but it was a recurring topic on into junior high. Those lessons stood me in good stead for learning German, and much later, Japanese. Without an adequate understanding of the structure of one's own language, it is more difficult to pick up others. What modifies what? what are the relationships between the different parts of the sentence? What words are omitted but implicitly understood by native speakers? Sentence diagramming graphically focuses attention on these questions. SenGram is an app that makes learning or reviewing sentence diagramming an enjoyable exercise in puzzle solving. In my case, due to some new teaching responsibilities, I just wanted to review the conventions of sentence diagramming after a lapse of over 4 decades. In fact, I found using this app to be ever so much more engaging than just looking over finished examples on the web. This app would be an ideal introduction to sentence diagramming for anybody home-schooled, or a great supplement to classroom instruction for those having trouble grasping the concepts. The diagram structures are provided, but the user must still figure out which words belong where on that scaffold and where words are inferred. This is a bit like using training wheels when learning to ride a bicycle, but it allows one to proceed rapidly to diagramming more complex sentences. I like puzzles, and found this app hard to put down until I had completed every sentence. Unlike many recreational puzzles, however, these actually manage to teach something of intrinsic value.

Misleading.

I wasted 4 dollars on this thing thinking it would diagram sentences for me but it's a puzzle!!! You really need to put that in the title.

Fun and Educational!

I'm an English teacher, and I think this is a great learning tool. I teach sentence diagramming everyday, and I recommend this app to any students who want extra practice.

Hate way set up

I love to play the app but it should be upgraded for iPhone 5 & iPad because it looks like an iPhone 4 version and if you fail one problem when we redo it it should give us a silver star thrid-gold fourth-bronze medal and fith then a bomb and that's when you will get your money worth and more buys and five star rating so let there be an update soon...... But I almost forgot ADD MORE LEVELS I BEAT THEM ALL IN 1 hour

I might have a small addiction to this, ok maybe a big one. It's fabulous. I just hope they make more soon. :)

I'm a grammar tutor

This app is great for reviewing grammar and/or sentence structure. When I had a question about diagramming a sentence structure that wasn't represented in the app, I emailed the support department and had a response in 24 hrs! Very cool!

Good app

Teacher of nerdy things

I love this to practice on, however I was hoping, like other users, for it to be able to diagram sentences for me.

Good practice for students studying grammar

I bought this for my fifth grade son to have extra practice diagramming. It provides the practice for which I was hoping.

Misrepresentation

I wanted a tool to diagram sentences I gave it. This app offers practice sentences for the user to diagram - useless for my purpose. I asked for my money back, but still have not received a refund. The authors of the program have since agreed to update the product description to reflect its use with sentences they provide
