Yes they do speak English in Ireland- they were "encouraged" to a few/many years back in history. It is still spoken in some parts of ireland - so as you celebrate one part of Irish culture here is a chance to test your deciphering/translating skills and have fun with your friends figuring out the pronunciation of the words.
