The app opens up to a simple visual tool that can be used to show and tell children if they can or cannot run at that time or place. There are also instructions for using the app and a social story that explains why it is unsafe to run in certain situations. The story also explains the visual tool so the child knows when he/she can and cannot run.
Many children, particularly those diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome or other special need, enjoy running and can run away from parents, or in a busy street without thought to the consequences.
Children with special needs often need more direct and visual instruction of what they can and cannot do or have. Teaching when and where it is safe to run to any child may be easier and less stressful when visual supports, like social stories and visual cues are used. This social story explains accurate information and ensures that your child will know when and where to run.
Social stories are an important type of visual support often used with children diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome or other special need.
Social stories were first defined by Carol Gray in 1991 and are commonly used to break down a task or social situation into small and easy to understand steps, often accompanied by descriptive pictures. Social stories are incredibly easy to implement and are used by many professionals for a wide range of behaviors.
I was looking for something to help a student with running inside of rooms, this really worked for him. I love the visual cue, and the idea of practicing so that my student really learned the "run" and "don't run" picture cues.
This is indeed a good approach to educate the people with special needs. I believe there is lot more to coming, and this app carries a potential to be helpful to the parents of special need children. Keep it up!
thanks to the person who created such an app for kids. there are lot of things to learn, which are really needed for kids.. Looking forward to upgrade its feature.. thanks..!!
This app is great for me to teach my kids not to run across the street and I can show them where to run and where not to run with the run and dont run pictures. It is a very interactive app to help them learn easier.
I used this app with my nieces. They seemed to really like the images and learning when it is okay and not okay to run across the street. These tips could really saves childrens lives just by teaching them how to be aware!
This app, as well as being educational, is quite entertaining as well! I like the association of the app with the game Red Light/Green Light. My 5 year old had fun learning the story and playing Red Light/Green Light. The association of fun with learning makes it a winner!
This app is fantastic. My child absolutely loves to learn and now almost every day he's asking me to get on this app so I can teach him more on where and where not to run! Thank you for coming out with this app! Makes learning easy :)
I feel as though this app is ahead of its time because it is appealing to children and teaching safety. Also my brother is learning how to read in the process. My brother loves apps where you can interact with the scenarios. It's great.
This app was great for showing my daughter, who is already ipad crazy, when it is safe and unsafe to run she loved the stories and pictures . Only down side is only one story. We hope more will be added soon
I love this app. My son is just now to the age where he is playing outside and starting to get close to the road. This app is an amazing helper for teaching him when to cross the road, and what to do! I highly recommend it
