New version with two new skins!!!
Category Price Seller Device
Games $0.99 Paleo-Tech Concepts iPhone, iPad, iPod

Version 2.0.1 addresses iOS 7 compatibility and iPhone 5 screen size issues. Version 2.0.0 adds two new graphics and control modes, Vector and Modern. You can still play the classic version you loved on the Apple ][, but now switch to the new graphic and control schemes on the fly. Controls in these two new modes are menu driven with descriptive buttons and touch to select target and nag grids, no coordinate input needed. All gameply and rules remain the same but with new ease of play and animated visuals.

A modern port of the classic Apple II game. Text based and originally coded in Integer Basic for the Apple II, this is the father of all computer based space strategy simulations ported for iOS devices. Authentic gameplay, system, and keyboard sounds.

"The Free Galactic Federation has been invaded by battle cruisers of the Klarnon Empire. Several Federation star-systems are under attack. As an experienced officer, you have just been given command of the starship Endeavor. Your three-year mission, should you choose to accept it, is
to search the Galaxy and destroy all Klarnon battle cruisers. If you succeed, the federation will survive. If not, •••••••"

retroTrek was developed to adhere as closely to the original integer basic code as possible. Commands are executing with button presses numbered from "0" to "9" and responding to prompts as in the original. You pilot the Endevour in a universe that is made up of quadrants in a 8x8 grid. Each quadrant is further broken down to 8x8 sectors. Sectors can contain stars, bases, and your enemy, the Klarnons. Manage your ship's resources, navigation, shields, and weapons while attempting to eliminate the Klarnon threat.

Gameplay Hint: If you read the original manual which is linked on retrotrek.co, you will find the game is quite deep in execution. Use the computer to lock photon torpedoes and course when entering a battle. After this is done and you choose to fire photons, the game will ask if you wish to use "Auto" fire mode. Choose this and you will fire and move at the same time, foiling the Klarnon's attempts to hit you with their photon torpedoes.

Great app for a classic game

I still love this game

This is probably my favorite game, nostalgia-wise, for the Apple II. It's a fairly accurate reproduction of the original Integer BASIC classic that came with the early Apple II computers and it warped me right back to 1978. The Klingons are now Klarnons (thank you overzealous copyright lawyers) but gameplay is more or less intact and consistent with the original (including sound). I have a few nits though: When you select a navigation function, the computer asks you if you want Warp or Ion but the prompt is 1 for Ion and 2 for Warp -- backwards. I'm guessing 1 is supposed to be like "I" but it trips me up. The numbers in the sectors don't follow the conventions as used in the original game (ones=stars, tens=bases, hundreds=Klingons) -- again, its backwards. Still, it's a lot of fun and I feel I can recommend it. I *do* hope the nits I pointed out are addressed though. ;)

Great idea. Crash-y execution

I remember this game from way back. It's still fun -- when it works. Every single time I launched the game it crashed halfway through. What's the point? Fix the crashing and I'd rate this much much higher

Make it so

I too remember this game from back in the day. Used to play it, and watch it being played, on Apple II's in high school. It's interesting that a simple text based game can be so captivating, challenging, and fun to play. Also that many years later, this game is still around and being ported to even more OS's. I think retroTrek is an excellent conversion of the original source material. Everything works, and the interface looks great. There are a few things that I don't like. But they are not bugs or errors, just the way the author chose to implement some things. Thank you for bringing this wonderful game to the iPhone\iPad\Touch.

As classic as it gets

Use to play this all the time back in the day. This version is very well ported to the iOS platform and retains the classic feel. Now if there was only a version for the iPad.

Just Like Apple Trek!
Orange Norseman

This is just like Apple Trek that I played on an Apple II in 1980! Besides bringing up lots of nostalgic memories, it is still fun. If you remember playing Apple Trek and you enjoyed it, consider this app.

Good but has annoying bug.
Carlitoman11

Pretty good. There is an annoying bug that crashes the app if you load a torpedo though!

Might be good, but ...

Will not load on a first gen iPod Touch. This page no longer claims to support 3.1.x, and the developer is no longer supporting the program. So, the 'stay tuned' above should be disregarded.
