Reviews

fun game, not a great port to ipad
Jinchoung

the game is really fun. read the reviews of the pc versions to get a feel for how the game mechanics work. it's a solid little game with fun management and racing elements. problem is the port. the buttons seem like they were not adjusted AT ALL from the mouse clickable version to a finger/touch version. so on screen where it's nothing but black and two pickable options, the buttons are TINY and you have to use the tip of your pinky to select one of them (the screen where you place bets). (actually, this betting screen shouldn't exist... it should just be an option in the previous screen... having to hit race and then race again in the next screen is just needlessly redundant and annoying). and this kind of thing exists on EVERY screen because they simply didn't resize elements for the ipad version. there's pop up text every time you hit a button (forcing you to hit every button twice in order to do anything) and that pop up text too is TINY! the menus too are simply not intuitive. on almost every screen, it takes you a little while to just figure out what the symbols mean because they are strange on not clearly indicative of function. again, not a deal breaker but it really could have used a "once over" or a play test with people who've never seen the game before. in general, a lazy, non touch specific implementation mars an otherwise fun game. not unplayable by any means but irritating. also, there's an annoying "feature" where the screen auto centers on your chariot after you've moved off of it to check out the field... but if you delay too long before you hit the on screen race controls, the screen shifts back and you end up hitting a key you didn't mean to. for both the orders part as well as the real time play sections, they've really got to implement the ability to turn autocenter on and off. i hope they fix because while the game's flaws don't make it unplayable, they do make me more reluctant to play which is a shame.

Very glad this made it to iOS, having a great time playing. It's quite the challenge trying to keep your charioteers alive. The play is similar to racing board games, except the game mechanics are hidden behind the scenes (actually I wish the "rules" / odds of the game were more transparent).

Awesome racing- strategy game
Brandonleehelm

Although the game is a little clunky in terms of figuring out what icons mean and how to upgrade your teams, once you spend about 30 minutes playing you will understand everything in the game. After that point this game is awesome.

UI ruins the experience
Fht6174gsd

While faithful to the PC version, there doesn't seem to have been any attempt at making the interface compatible to the touchscreen. There appears to be zero difference in the UI from the PC version and zero thought in adapting it for touch screens. Which is a real shame because the game would otherwise be really fun but as it stands now, is an exercise in frustration.

Too simple and repetitive
JPJNCs

I love strategy games but this game is over priced. It starts out fun, but then you just do the same thing over and over again. There aren't very many upgrades (and they are very expensive so you won't be buying many or any at first) or moves for your rider and chariot so every race will start to feel the same. It would be a good game if it was 2$. Leave this one alone until the price drops.

Fun but over priced
Veld

If you have ever played Avalon Hill's "Circus Maximus" then this is a must buy for you. This game is a very close representation of that awesome boardgame. The campaign mode in this app is a blast! Having said that, if I could give this game a 4.5 I would. There are some clunky bits in selecting menu options and the price is ridiculous. If this game dropped its price it actually might sell but at 10 bucks the developers must not want to sell too many copies.

Easily worth the money
Leeabe51

One of this simple to learn but hard to master type of games. It can bog down a bit if you aren't in the heat of the race, but overall it's great fun. It's cheap compared the the PC version as well. Highly recommended if you like strategy games.

Turn based chariot racing sim.
ojtitus

Need I say more. Well, if I do here it is. This game has a lot going for it, whether it be the leveling up of chariot drivers or the buying of better chariots and horses. There are lots of cities to race in with different race sizes, layouts, and challenges.

Graphics

The gameplay is fun, but the graphics are just tragic. Slitherine, please update this!

Great fun

Great game. A steal during the 50% off Christmas sale. I bought at the regular price a week before it went on sale and it's so good I ain't even mad.
