Definitions vague and incomplete

"Addiction: Physical and psychological dependence on a drug." Yep, that's it. I am not a psychologist, but know this is a misleading and incomplete definition due to an "error of omission," by neglecting to include that addiction is the result of the accumulation of poor choices, one's refusal to accept personal responsibility for both the choices made and the ultimate consequences; creating a vicious circle of self denial, delusion and blame. The definition also doesn't reveal that addiction encompasses more than just drugs. People's accumulations of poor choices, self denial and blame can lead to physical and/or psychological dependence on many other things. Food, sex, violence, enabling other addicts, lying, criminal acts, and many other choices a person makes based on lack of self-discipline and the repetition of the same poor choices. I liken the definition to defining a car as a four door four wheeled Crown Victoria used to transport one's self to a movie theater. There are much better resources than the Psych Terms app. One star is for the app; the second star is for the inclusion of a sheer number of both familiar and unfamiliar psychology-related terms whose definitions can be looked up elsewhere.

It is helpful for those in Intro to psych. There are a lot of definitions that are too vague and most words I look for are not listed.

I hope the developers are in the process of creating fuller, more precise information. Many, if not all, of the definitions are very vague and bordering on completely misleading. Along with a definitive terms, perhaps it would be beneficial to add a new little link in each to general symptoms. There are a lot of terms, so clearly that would be a lot of work to do. But hey, it's psych. Nothing is black and white in psych. There are millions of acres of grey areas and to simplify any part of it, as this app has unfortunately done, is an injustice to those with mental illness everywhere. Knowledge is power but if that knowledge is wrong, ignorance is born.

I have been using this app for a month. I have only found one term I looked for so far from all the psychological readings I am doing. Merriam Websters defined the term more thoroughly and has had more psych terms more clearly defined. I just deleted this app.

I really don't know what that previous review is about, but I found this app to be great!!! It has a lot of words in their dictionary. Unlike other apps that you download which are limited unless you buy the app, this one is helpful and it's free! Very happy with it!!! Highly recommend.
