A unique drawing app

Carovoss

Even tough sketch paint is not really about paint and even though the number of tools is relatively limited, it is a very inpired and unique drawing app. It succeeds to translate movement and touch and even pressure it seems. You can use it in a physical way which seems to be lacking in most computer drawing software. The results are subtles and unexpected.

Simple interface. Nice shading on the brushes. Fairly solid

The only thing this lacks is a decent save. For those wondering how to 'save' a picture, just take a screen shot. It tells you this in the help. Hold down the home and sleep button on your iPad or iPhone to save a snapshot of your artwork. The 'save' button in the app itself is just to set an 'undo' point, meaning if you want to be able to undo to that point, you would click save before you started something complex for example. When you want to save your final work, just create a screen grab with the Home+Sleep buttons. It would benefit from a proper save but otherwise lets you create some great work.

Love this app

Love drawing the pictures or letting my son draw me something then saving and using as my backgrounds!

Love it

Installed it just 15min back and I already love it. The different shading options make it a class apart. The only thing I would have liked was more line thickness options.

Very nice

Fun, promotes creativity, pretty to learn, and most an do creative pictures (especially abstract) w/o any training. The app itself is very unique and very simple to use.

I love this app

Dirty Car Artist

The GUI is terrible, the tool set very limited, can't zoom, no layers, undo is a joke...but this is by far the coolest sketching app I've ever used. I hope the developer hooks up with a good GUI designer and provides the user with things like brush size and opacity, a normal functioning undo- up to about 50 levels, layers, real save and share functions, image and canvas size, and a proper tool pallet. In fact, the app is so badly put together I'd rate it much lower, but frankly it's the first app I launch when I want to sketch, and it's absolutely brilliant for that. It could be a major art creation app with a bit more work. Congratulations, but please keep after it!

Great app

I really love this app! It is the best app for drawing on the iPad that I could find. I would give it 5 stars if it came itch a layering tool, but otherwise it works great.

Not worth it

Who invited this kid to the app store. Geez..

It's really pretty, but lacking features

Vrar

The brushes are awesome. It's great for people who are just learning to draw because it makes any drawing look good with its auto shading so it's inspiring to people who can't draw well yet and encourages them to draw more. For experts, the brushes will open a whole new array of creativity for you. It also includes a tutorial book and a game feature like draw something but I rarely use it. Now the BAD stuff. The interface is weak, and can be difficult to navigate. The save feature is a screen shot, which isn't bad on iPad since you can crop it in the photos but not good for professionals. Its also missing certain features like importing pictures from your photos which is a huge setback because once you close an image you can't edit it again. Also, no layers and there is only one blunt eraser brush. Overall, great fun for the person who occasionally likes to sketch or is just learning, but for someone used to programs like photoshop or someone who is already an artist, I would go with sketchbook express who has all the layers, erasers, and importing tools.

Excellent start but needs some basics to become amazing

I very much enjoy using this app for basic sketches and fun. However, some very basic features are lacking that could make it fantastic. 1) Save/Load of canvases. Once you clear, you're done. Screenshots are a cop-out in my opinion, and useless for working on multiple images at once. 2) Sometimes the brushes don't work quite how you'd think. There's a lot of "intelligent" brushing that the app does and 90% of the time it really helps. But once in a while the brushes just do things that you're not expecting. For example the Sketchy brush will sometimes apply a nice thin line, but other times it will bleed all over. While I understand it is trying to figure out what I want, in this case it can get frustrating when you want to do details. 3) The save can be buggy. Sometimes when I minimize the app it overwrites the save I did, other times it does not. It is unclear whether the act of changing a brush creates a save. Don't get me wrong, the app is actually great fun and allows even poorly skilled artists like myself to put out some neat pictures. It is well worth the upgrade to the pro version. Here's hoping they do some updates and really make this app shine!
