A tested Bluetooth Low Energy Heart Rate Monitor for iPhone 4S and newer, iPad3 and newer, iPod touch 5.

PrimalBeat HRV is a customized version of the popular Sweetbeat Life HRV application. It uses the same state-of-the-art technology, and customer support is provided by the experts from Sweetwater Health, the manufacturer of the app.

PrimalBeat HRV users will experience a more streamlined user interface that will minimize confusion and target the most important use of the technology for athletes: monitoring morning HRV levels in a rested state. The "HRV Morning" will record and archive your data with informative charts to track your progress, while the "HRV Anytime" button can be used for all other recording sessions.

•Please visit www.beathealthy.com for a list of compatible Heart Rate Monitors.

PrimalBeat has two main components:
•HRV Morning
•HRV AnyTime

HRV Morning:
In competitive sports, improved performance is often affected by alternating periods of intensive training with periods of relative rest. PrimalBeat measures HRV, an objective measure of your body’s response to each workout and provides training recommendations based on the morning reading.

HRV AnyTime:
With PrimalBeat, you can measure your HRV and stress levels in real time, giving you the ability to take action to reduce stress. If your chosen stress threshold is reached, SweetBeat’s Relax screen prompts you with a deep breathing screen that includes calming images.

•Stats: The stats screen more widely referred to as the “geek” screen, shows all the metrics being measured.
•Graph: The graph screen shows a real-time building graph of your heart rate from RR Intervals. Turning the phone 90 degrees counter-clockwise will bring up the graph in landscape.
•Export RR Intervals: PrimalBeat provides RR interval export capability using a CSV file.

PrimalBeat Features:
•Pinch and zoom graphs display all of your data for analysis
•Post your session summary on Facebook and Twitter to share with friends.
•Customize your Relax screen images with your favorite pictures.
•Save and upload sessions to your secure MySweetBeat account at www.BeatHealthy.com.
•Email your RRs and session data for personal analysis off-line

You have to use chest strap!

This won’t work with your Apple Watch HRM or your Garmin watch HRM apparently...just wasted $10. UGH

Hard to pair with Bluetooth

I really like the app but it is really hard to Get it to pair up in the morning

Lacks features
ML*1964

The Primal Beat HRV app is built off the Sweet Beat HRV app but is allegedly optimized for primal HRV analysis. The screenshot in the pictures differs from what is actually included in the app. For example, “Food” at the bottom is missing, among others. When I bought the app, I thought it would be the same as the Sweet Beat app with the HRV optimization since they both cost the same. Seems to work great with my Zoom though.

More equipment to buy

Nowhere in the description does it say you need to already own a heart rate monitor that can connect to your phone. Now I have to purchase a $50 heart rate monitor to even use the app I've already purchased.

will not connect
Nelsonhockey

the app briefly reads my HR but doesn’t stay connected long enough to give data.. sorry I purchased it waste of money

Have to have a chest strap
NicknameMonkey

I understood that hardware was required in order to use the app. I was surprised that the app can only sync with chest straps, and not wrist straps. If I really want to measure my resting HR, would it be best to be done by a device that I can wear continuously and don't have to go to much effort to initiate. Putting on a chest strap to measure resting HR first thing in the morning doesn't seem to me to be the best approach. Deleted app. My understanding is that NatureBeat does accommodate wrist monitors, so checking that next. Disappointed with this primal app.

Great app! Just needs one addition
NegritoAR

This is a great app to track HRV and other stats. The only thing I would add is the training measuring tab like the sweet beat app.

Works well. Overpriced.
dave_newton

Performs as advertised-no issues. Priced above value.

Comprehensive, affordable, but complex
sweeneywi

Overal, this is a decent hrv option and is relatively more affordale than others if you can get a good rate on a Bluetooth strap. I really like the morning hrv reading feature. However, the app does a poor job of disseminating information. It really needs a UX designer and/or info viz designer. I have no idea what 75% of the info means and I'm someone that has done hrv tracking for 4 years.
