The app is lacking in instructions, but it appears that despite asking for alert perms, it only looks for 'mon when you open the app (after closing it) or if you spend one of ten "scans" to scan for all Pokemon. Even then, it list critters which it itself claims to be gone (along with a link to call uber to take you there). Clicking the "scans" icon in the upper left corner prompted me to do a fingerprint auth for an in-app purchase it had not given me any details off (I canceled out, so don't know what more "scans" would cost). All in all either not working or otherwise questionable I'm afraid.
Don't waste your time. They blame Pokemon servers being down when I can actually login in to Pokemon no problem!
Every time I try to use the app it says the servers are down. No communication from the developers that they are even going to try to fix it (unusual, considering the whole point of the app is that they can send us push messages).
First off, every time I have tried to use this app it gives an error that the Pokemon Go server are having issues. It's been a couple days now and it hasn't worked once. Secondly, they have a button that looks like you have 10 scans to use. When you click continue it starts the in-app purchase of those 10 scans. No where in the app does it even hint that, that button would charge you $1.99. It just seems shady to me. tldr: the app doesn't work. They mislead you about in-app purchases. Not worth the download.
All it does is say the servers are down so either this is another one of those crappy apps or it needs to be fixed, because the Pokemon Go servers at not down 24/7
