PlatterSpeed - Vinyl Tool

PlatterSpeed is an easy way to calibrate turntable speed to proper 33 1/3 or 45 RPM using a 3150 Hz testtone.
Category Price Seller Device
Utilities Free ProgTec GmbH iPhone, iPad, iPod

Using a testrecord with a 3150 Hz track you can record and adjust with your iPhone (or iPad) from the loudspeaker in an endless loop. The current speed relative to the nominal speed is visualized through a colored graphical indicator.
Measuring the speed this way is absolutely exact in contrast to using a traditional strobe disk.

The frequency data can be recorded and then be displayed in a graphical chart view (frequency vs. time). The frequency data can also be evaluated numerically.
*New*: In-App Purchase to calculate WOW according to DIN IEC 386 (formerly DIN 45507). Expensive special equipment was needed before to do so!

Note that you need a record with the test tone. The Adjust+ testrecord is a perfect fit - others might work as well but no warranty. The app has a demo mode to test its functionality without a test record.

Good idea

But I can't use it. In have two test records, neither has a test tone at 3150. Why not use 1khz? It's more common?

Works perfectly

Very accurate. I would have paid for this.

It Works

It won't replace your wow & flutter meter but it's pretty cool.

Perfect!

This is the easiest way to accurately adjust turntable speed. I grabbed an old test record from eBay or you can buy the Adjust+.

Would be better

PlatterSpeed would be far more useful if you could set your target frequency to a test tone you have available. How hard could that be?

Great way to calibrate turntable platter speed
RaceTripper

I used this to trim the 33 and 45 RPM speeds on my Clearaudio Ovation turntable, using the Analogue Productions Ultimate Test LP as a source for the test tone. Works brilliantly, and cheaper than buying a strobe disk and light.

Useful tool
electricskyline

I use this with the Analogue Productions Ultimate Test LP. It seems to work great, although I don't have anything to compare it to. One thing I would like is the ability to store multiple sessions and calculate an average for all values from a range of sessions, so I don't have to crunch the numbers myself. Great app, and the price can't be beaten.

Grrrr

I can not get this app to work.
