Great iPad app/PC combo

Preston Brown

I use Picasa on my PC for organizing and tagging all my photos. Albums of photos can easily be synchronized to my account on Google's server. My wife can then view my photos on her iPad very easily. She loves it!

A really pleasant surprise!!

I've had iPads pretty much from day one and have always used the included Safari web browser when I wanted to view my Picasa web albums. This works but of course you need to be connected to a decent WiFi connection to view an album and you can't view the photo alone- the top inch or so of the screen contains the Safari web browser header, tabs, etc. which detract from the photo show. I have occasion to use my iPad via an HDMI connection to a large 50"" Sony television to show slide shows of photos I've taken. I don't want to ruin the show by showing the browser so I download the photos into my iPad and use the built in Photos application to run the slide show. This works, but it means that each time I want to use my iPad to show a slide show I have to download another group of photos to the iPad. Ever since the retina upgrade on the iPad these photo downloads take a LOT of space. My 64 GB iPad is bursting at the seams and I typically have to delete a couple of earlier albums to accommodate the new one. To get the photos into my preferred viewing order I have go to EDIT and drag photos around (one at a time only unfortunately) to my preferred order. Very time consuming For photos uploaded to Picasa to display in the order that I wish it is also necessary to drag them around after uploading. With Picasa web albums this is fairly easy since several photos can be selected and moved at one time on the screen after photos are uploaded. Great if you're viewing on your home desktop machine. Using Chrome on a Mac, the screen image will display at full size on the monitor with only the photo showing. Not so with Safari on the iPad. However, that's where "Picasa Photo Albums" really shines. It will display and run a slide show right from my Picasa online web album- full screen without the browser clutter. The "pleasant surprise" I discovered yesterday sitting in my car far away from any WiFi connection. I opened the iPad and clicked on this application and found that the 190+ photo album that I had been viewing at home on my WiFi connection had been temporarily cached by this application and I was able to click through photo by photo and also run the slide show as if I was still connected to the internet. The album had never been downloaded to my iPad albums. This will make it possible to show these slide shows without the necessity to download them into "Photo" before using them. It also will remove the tedious necessity to manually re-shuffle the order of the slides for one additional application use.

Don't waste your money.. There's no way to delete a photo or change visibility like they say it will. I am very annoyed and wish I could get a refund.
