Pier Pressure is a multi-part app featuring a role-playing game true to the “Navy experience.” The game is coupled with resources to help Sailors practice responsible drinking behaviors in real life, including a blood alcohol content (BAC) calculator and local taxi cab search.

You begin the game by selecting and customizing a Sailor avatar. The overall gameplay follows the pattern of a natural “day” where you’ll go to work and then go out to a bar with friends, making choices along the way.

But be forewarned: choices made at the bar will affect your skill level at work the next day, which in turn affects your character’s evaluation reports. Smart drinking choices will result in achieving the next rank, while poor choices and performance at work will result in separation from the Navy (a.k.a. game over).

Don’t forget to check out the Tools section of the app to find resources to help you drink responsibly in real life. The BAC calculator can help you monitor your body’s alcohol level, and the local taxi cab search can help you find a safe ride home.

[Disclaimer about Blood Alcohol Content Calculator]
The formula used in this mobile application incorporates a BAC calculation procedure provided to the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration courtesy of Herbert Moskowitz, Ph.D., a noted alcohol researcher. It should be understood that what this provides is a rough estimate based on average values and is not 100% accurate. This BAC estimate should not be used by individuals to decide whether or not to drive after drinking -- impairment can result from any amount of alcohol. However, it does provide the best available approximation of the number of drinks it takes for individuals to reach specific BACs. The best policy is don't drink and drive. Period. Navy, next time you have the money to spend generating an app, please don't. Instead this could have been used for so many better things.

Good

Bout time there is an app for salty sailors like myself!

Good job

Some one actually managed to make some of our required learning fun. I bet your the ones that revamped NKO too.

This game kinda blows
ShankNinja

Getting trashed is fun but it makes the next day of work harder, and your friends are all trying to give you an intervention while the game talks about how good nonalcoholic beverages and turning yourself in are

I'd rather watch paint dry

Another failed attempt by the folks at your friendly neighborhood DOD. The sad part is that somewhere along the way, some focus group, comity, or some folks with a few letters (Phd, Dr) added to their name thought this was a good idea.

Pathetic!!!

This is how we have to teach US Military Members how to behave? Truly... truly concerned for our country's security.

I felt like my kids would appreciate the app more than an adult. This app is useful for the BAC limit so I'll keep it on my phone, but I won't play the games again.. My kids will.

Could be better

The game is redundant. After a few plays, I find myself racing to skip the text messages and hurry to call a cab. The shift is pretty decent since the ships and subs approach randomly. Moving up in the ranks seem pretty motivating because, well..I like to promote. My only gripe with the promotions are that once I made Chief, I was wearing the anchor on a BLACK garrison cap! On the text messages, I wore an E2 insignia the entire time as well. Overall, not a bad attempt at a Navy game trying to promote responsibility when alcohol is concerned. Pier pressure has potential but definitely could be better.

Dope!
