Some other apps just give you the PHP manual, some give you a half-baked PHP tutorial, but Practical PHP gives you all that and a whole lot more - it's the ultimate tutorial and reference guide for PHP developers of all levels!
But don't just take my word for it - here are some things others have said:
"Love having a look at this app while bored and of course while working. Really clear and well presented. Great for beginners or experienced php'ers!" - Coatezy
"This book has everything for experienced coders and for new coders. Reference or reading to learn from scratch" - Zabadda
- "Author Paul Hudson has done an outstanding job of writing a book that is a complete reference to the core of the language, as well as the most popular PHP extensions...This excellent book is designed by the author to provide depth and breadth that can't be found elsewhere. Thus, this book provides the maximum information density on PHP, without all of the fluff and extras that get in the way." - Amazon.com
- "...an ideal first choice book on PHP for programmers. It covers all of the core functionality of the language in a concise way without getting bogged down in the details of how the lesser used parts of the language function." - Stephen Chapman, Fellgall.com
- "The author's writing style is very easy to embrace, which makes reading this book a breeze. The author clearly knows PHP very well and provides many, many resourceful nuggets of experience in the paragraphical excursion through this insightful book." - Rob Wehrli
- "This book is an invaluable aid, complementing the online PHP manual as a useful, concise reference guide ... liberally strewn with excellent examples and clear diagrams, and is well written for its target audience" - dakegra
- "I highly recommend this book for experienced PHP developers, and as a companion to a tutorial for beginners." - S. Stanicki

I'm only through the first several sections and while the content is good (pretty standard on most stuff but with some great explanations) the code examples given are chopped off and you can't scroll right in the code to see what is missing. You kind of have to guess the code. Fix this issue and I'll update the review. Thanks.
This app is certainly worth the 99 cents as it's a pretty handy way to make changes to code you might have sitting on the web. It does not run php locally, but that's to be expected. It would be most helpful if it allowed code to be copied and pasted so one wouldn't need to type some of the same things over and over. Copy is not available at all, and if you think you can copy some code from somewhere else and past it into this app, you're in for a surprise - the encoding is all wrong so even though it looks okay after the paste, a preview (there is a preview mode) shows it to be a real mess. There is no back-tick symbol (used in php) available on the keyboard or quick-symbol insertions provided, so one needs to go to one's email which does provide it with that app's keyboard, type it, then copy and paste it into the php app. Fortunately that back- tick symbol does copy from another app into this one with no problem. No real help is a available, so be aware that what is seen with the app explanation and developer's website is all that there is. But like I said, it's certainly worth the 99 cents. If the developer fixes these things (and whatever else might be lurking in the shadows) this could definitely become a real gem worth much more!
I have another PHP program ( php riot ) that has the " manual" and it reads and is organized like the book (TOC, etc...). The manual here is seperated out by topic and I wasn't really sure that it was the manual. Search for " getting started" and you get no results in the manual. Search for "tutorial".. Same. Can you include the TOC on the manual? Otherwise I'll be switching BTWN two apps for what I think is maybe not already there but might be. Otherwise... Love the authors style. Easy to follow. I have to learn PHP in the next week and I think I might actually have a shot now. Thanks!!
I haven't a logical bone in me, hence coding/programming does not come naturally. That said, this book makes me feel as if I could climb tallest mountain. Everything is well explained, clear and concise. This newbie here an eager student become. Thanks
Generally great! But it needs updating in the encryption section and (I think) SQlite.
Don't waste the dollar. Make the app fit the screen and ill update my review.
