Can’t run anything before paying

Juhbvccgb

The program is completely worthless unless you’re ready to pay for the privilege of actually running your script. It starts you with 0 compilations available. What a joke.

FREE is deceiving here

Bhonga

You can download the app for free and run the sample code already given for free. That's it! If you even want to test the app for any other code sample then you have to pay. IMHO listing app as paid and pricing it to $2.99 would have been a true description. As $2.99 is the payment you have to make to get unlimited compilations.

Good start

I've just downloaded this app and written a few basic Perl programs, and it has worked well so far. There are two things I'd like to see added in the updates: (1) input from files so I can save more than one set of input data; (2) option to email the source programs so that I can use them on other devices, e.g,, my iMac or iPad.

Not bad for a first attempt...

First, I want to say THANKS. I have been looking for a Perl scripting/programming tool for the iPad/iPod since the generation 1 iPod Touch arrived, and here it is... so, thanks. I look forward to improvements. I would like to see improvements to the file system interface, perhaps a directory manager to manage Perl programs and their files. I have not yet tried any file i/o, but my first look didn't find great tools for managing my own .pl files let alone Perl program created files. It is slow; don't expect fast runtimes. I can live with this, as my primary reason for wanting to do Perl on the iPad is for entertainment value on long flights. I would LOVE some form of Dropbox integration so that Perl programs and files written on my Macs and PCs can be shared/sync'd with my iPad whenever I am within range of a data link (WIFI for me). Again, I look forward to seeing a version 2, so keep at it.

Agree with the others, good start

If need to scratch an itch and do some Perl on your phone, this works pretty well. It does require an internet connection, so know that going into it. It might be nice if it had a custom keyboard which made some of the commonly used special chars ( like $, @ or ;) available at the top level. But for what it is, it works.

Practically Useless

Jukari

The program lacks any real capabilities.... I guess you could use it to do some math problems... But peels true power is restricted. Can't import modules. Can't create an icon for your program. As far as I know you can't access, and edit files....

It's a start, but needs more

August Blackburn

This is a pretty cool app, but it is limited. I think the idea for this app is great, however the implementation is limited. For example, <STDIN> in the 'HELLO WORLD' example provided doesn't work. I would give it a higher rating if < STDIN> worked. This app is a good start, but clearly not a finished product. If you are trying to learn perl don't start here because this app will mess you up on some of the basics.

Very basic support

HugeWave7

This is not a very useful Perl implementation. First it requires online access and won't work offline. Second it does not allow interactive user input. Instead it gives a separate screen to provide user input before launching the script. May be good for entering pre-determined values. Third, editor will not scroll. If you past half screen then you can't see what you type.

Deceptive

Misstoldyaso

You pay two bucks for this game, only to then have to pay more money to actually use it! You can read the how-tow guide but cannot run compilations without buying them.

Pretty weak

Jems2112

This is pretty far from anything resembling perl. It actually runs on a remote server somewhere? Lol.
