In the summer of 2018, Travis B. Mitchell set out to reimagine the process of telling a feature-length story independently. Being a first-time filmmaker himself, he wanted to explore the boundaries of what a first-time filmmaker could achieve with resources commonly available to most young storytellers. So with his iPhone 6s, $600, and non-professional family and friends, he set out to tell a unique story.
"People and People" is feature-length film that was entirely shot and edited on that iPhone 6s. But more than pushing technical boundaries, the film tells a story that pushes the boundaries of what radical empathy could look like for us in our everyday lives. As you experience the film, you'll get a glimpse into uncommon (even untouched) angles on topics like death, depression, trauma, special needs, post-incarceration, and more.
The hope is that this film will both inspire young filmmakers to tell their stories in new ways with what they have, as well as encourage us all to re-evaluate the way we see and empathize with the strangers around us.
