You take the role of a penguin named Pengo who finds himself in a maze made up of ice blocks that is surrounded by a fence. If the blocks are kicked, they will slide along until they hit another block or the fence. If however, the block is already touching something else (in the direction it would slide), it breaks and disappears. Three (or more) of the blocks are special 'diamond' ice blocks which cannot break.
The maze is inhabited by 'snow bees' that are deadly so must be avoided. They move around in a semi-random way: a bee may sometimes choose to get away from Pengo instead of chasing him (especially on early levels). The bees can be killed by crushing them with a moving ice block (bees do not stop the blocks so more than one bee can be killed with one kick). This momentarily stuns them and they can be crushed by simply walking over them. Only a set number of bees are on the screen at once (3 on level 1) but there are more on higher levels which emerge as others are killed. Note that the bees will resurrect after a while. A level is completed either by killing all of the bees or by lining up the special diamond blocks. The latter is the preferred way of completing the level because a huge points bonus is awarded.
The number of bees on screen, the speed of the game, the intelligence of the bees and the number of diamond blocks all increase on each successive level, making it much more difficult to successfully line up the diamond blocks.

Overall its FUN & CQQL =>Great Start! I've been waiting for this game:) To polish this game up U need to: (1) Add word 'PAUSE' to arrow to designate pause function. (2) Add both Ability to Record & 'High Score' page. (3) Upgrade graphics to 'HD' status. (4) Play 'iPod music' vs Pengo's music. (5) Adjust volume level of Pengo's music & game sounds. KEEP UP THE INTEN$ITY GUY$!

I loved this arcade game in the 80's and was excited when it appeared as an app. However, the app lacks any directions. I had to keep coming back to the app store to get the rules - and I used to play it. All the worse for those who never had. Add directions and a bit more clarity to the app and your rating will improve.
How do you control the Penguin?

Maybe I'm just stupid but I can't figure out how to fine control pengo's movements. I've tapped and swiped all over the screen and can't figure it out.

Almost Made It...
The concept is the only thing like the original. Live the few others who have purchased this app, WE LOVE THE ORIGINAL! Please oh PLEASE make the necessary changes to make it like the original game. This is the ONLY way you will gain support and sell this app. I hope I made a wise decision in supporting your app. Won't play again until I see an update for this app.
Disappointing translation

I kept checking the App Store to see if someone had created an iOS version of Pengo, one of my favorite arcade games, and I was thrilled when I found this and happy to support the developer. After a couple of plays, however, I stopped playing. While it is an admirable attempt to resurrect the original, it lacks the charm and the whimsy of the arcade version. The graphics are mediocre, the music is annoying and the sound effects are odd (are they supposed to be underwater?). And as mentioned in other reviews, the controls are difficult to understand, much less master. I hold out that the developer will continue to work on this game and improve its resemblance to the original.

I WANT TO LIKE THIS GAME! I and many of my friends are AVID PENGO lovers. ONE DAY this may be a GREAT GAME! THIS is NOT that DAY!

I loved the arcade Pengo so I was hoping this would be the same. It's got similar elements but lacks the addiction factor of the original. Controls are a little dicey. Music is not cheerful like the original. But, this is the closest thing to a Pengo fix I could find and for the price it's just okay. Not great.

I was a huge fan of the arcade version but this leaves a lot to be desired. The developer may have wanted a different interpretation of the game but it really doesn't stack up very well against the original. It seems they were trying to fix something which was never broke. If developers are going to re-create the classics, I wish they would leave them in all their glory and actually re-create the classics.
