This app is nice for people already learning Japanese. Definitely only useful if you already have the chararacters down fairly well. The options to pick which characters to include is great. This app is helping me to identify the characters faster. The problem I have is the time limit. There needs to be an option to increase the time you have to answer. The current time is about 2 seconds. Which is great if you already have all the characters memorized, but not so great if you are still having trouble with a few of them... such as nu/me and ne/wa. Tl:dr - Memorize the characters first, then use this app to help you identify them faster.

This app would be perfect if the audio for the Kana was better. Since that’s what’s most important I have to take two stars. Other than that perfect app. The visual and sound design is great!

You have to pay extra to slow the flash cards down. I’m a beginner trying to learn and it flips through the cards too fast for me to learn anything before marking me “wrong” for not choosing quickly enough

Prior to finding this app I spent a few weeks learning Hiragana using the YouTube video by "JapanesePod101". I could recall the characters okay but really needed to improve the speed to help with forming words and reading. This app worked very well for me and was money well spent. After a couple more weeks of intermittent use I can easily recall all of the Hiragana monograms, diacritics and digraphs. The app is fun to use, like playing a game. Thanks for this excellent learning tool!

This app is good if you want to review, but due to the timer in the questions it is not great for learning.

I used this app when I first started learning Japanese in college and I still use it in my free time to study. It really helped me a lot when I was struggling to learn hiragana and katakana. 10/10.

This is the best hiragana/katakana drill app that I practiced with so far! It FORCES you to stop second guessing your knowledge and you have to move speedily. It helps you to stop translating the characters in your native language and to just know them when you hear or see them. It has the full list of the characters where people can also study the characters before drilling themselves...the drill is NOT where you “study” the characters...it’s where you test whether or not you DO know them. That’s why some people are probably complaining; they want to use the testing area as the study section. It’s totally for beginners if you use it correctly; I’m a beginner too. I nearly avoided this app because of some of the complaining reviewers...but I guess everyone’s learning style is different. I WILL finally learn katakana using this app. Yay!

As in you know it on the fly. It only gives you like 2 seconds to answer before it shows the answer. Not useful for beginners.
