Insanely Fun App & Amazing Real Instrument.

Joshua D.

I am really enjoying this Oval application a whole lot so far. And it is free! Such amazing generosity on the part of the developer. Thank you for that and this application. I find that this program is easy as heck to step into, learn and create some cool music with. Plus, it has Audiobus support, a hugely great feature in my opinion. It also contains neat-looking, center pads to play, you can assign different musical scales to the notes, change the middle bass scale, change the overall octave (though, strangely it only goes down to negative -2?), and there are four effects - Filter, Delay, Reverb and Dynamics. And it appears as though you are able to save custom presets, which I haven't had a chance to do yet, but which I am very grateful for. And there is a decent amount of factory presets available and hopefully more will be added later. Though, considering the app is generously free, I am not complaining nor asking for anything. The app also contains a metronome function, a recording function and a playback feature as well. I believe that Oval will be lots of fun to throw into Audiobus too. And I must say, putting this app out for free to help encourage people to check out the developer's website and the real physical Oval device that is available for pre-order right now. Well, that worked on me, haha. The physical Oval instrument is incredible looking in my opinion! It is very similar, possibly the same as those instruments some guy in Europe, I think, makes and there are few he makes every year. But, this is an amazing digital device and aesthetically I think it is just beyond gorgeous in either white or black. It is cool I thought, too, that on the developer's website you can watch videos of the developers and other musicians actually playing this awesome device. Though, like all things amazing in life, the physical Oval costs a pretty penny. Sadly more than I believe that I would be available to afford right now. It looks as though they have sold quite a few already and only have like 50 left, I think, I might be wrong on that account, though? Maybe you could make an Oval Junior and sell it for $100 - $200? I most likely would be able to save and afford the price for that. But, probably will not happen, hehe. Oh well. Anyways, as far as the app goes, again, I find the app incredible and love how it was given for free. Many thanks to the Oval team for offering this cool program free-of-charge right now. I hope that I can one day afford the real-life Oval device. Until then I will just enjoy this trippy, fantasy-like music app. And thanks so much for adding Audiobus to the program. Good luck with this product and God bless. iPad Air 2/ iOS 10.2.1

Epic app - excited for my oval!

Elijah of OneDoorLand

Fantastic app, lots of features but easy to use and navigate. Great design. Looking forwArd to getting my physical oval so I can use the whole experience! Excited to add this to my handpan collection and record for OneDoorLand albums! Thanks!

Great App

Sheltonblive

I love the sounds on this app. I couldn't record, though. Please fix!

Brilliant all around

Xordoz

Great idea, with a superb UI. I don't normally rate apps very often but this one is stellar -- couldn't resist. This is one of my favorite overall synth apps on iOS.

It does the basics.

I've been playing with Oval Synth for awhile as I was long awaiting the arrival of my Oval. The app was pretty cool. But now that I have my Oval (which I absolutely love!) I quickly noticed the many shortcomings of this app. 1) where's the functionality I swear I saw years ago? Such as allowing the import of our own sounds, etc. 2) Please, please, give us a way to assign notes of our choosing to individual pads and to be able to create our own scales and save them. 3) it would be nice to be able to rotate the pads depicted in the app. I tend to rotate my handpans depending on the piece I'm playing. 4) it would be great to be able to save a configuration of a particular sound paired with a particular scale. Don't get me wrong, I love the Oval and this app. The setup was a cinch, I was playing within minutes of unboxing. And the fit and finish of the kit itself is impeccable and seriously a work of art. But I digress. This is a review of this app. Please, Oval, give us the goods that fulfills our expectations.

Has potential

Michaelmenary

Could be useful if I could interact with other music apps or use my own samples. Great idea, but not there yet.

Love the Depth but

Calvinus XVII

The instrument interface vanished and after an hour's frustrated effort I could not get back to it! I had to delete the app and re-download it; this sort of thing leaves a lingering bad impression, as user-friendliness gets kicked into the street!

Basic, but good

mikechase3

Yeah, it's basic, but it's a great app for getting ideas through scales.
