WHAT THE CRITICS SAY «ORBITAL is a game of skill, it's a game of strategy, it's a game of reflexes, and it's a game you will keep front and center of your iPhone for weeks on end.» - John Bardinelli (jayisgames.com) «A picnic to understand, but a marathon to get beyond the first few minutes, Orbital's simple style is perfect for those looking for fill the odd spare moment.» 8/10 - Keith Andrew (pocketgamer.co.uk) «Orbital is the most visually appealing brick breaker type game that I have ever laid eyes on and had the chance to play.» 5/5 - Mike (iphoneincanada.ca) «While there are already a few iPhone games that share the same gameplay mechanics as Orbital, none of them look anywhere near as cool.» - Eli Hodapp (toucharcade.com) «BitForge has managed to combine the addictive gameplay of Peggle and the beauty of Geometry Wars, two digital forms of crack, into one easy to use package.» - Chad George (thatvideogameblog.com) «Orbital takes simple gameplay and dresses it up with a unique “gravity” feature and enhanced graphics. The game can be very frustrating at times, but that won’t keep you from coming back for another try.» 4/5 - Will Raskin (148apps.com) «Orbital has got fantastic graphics and unfussy features. Come to think of it, there are really no negative points about the game. Good going, Bitforge!» 5/5 - Yoyo (iphonefootprint.com)

GAMEPLAY You must shoot orbs into a grid with your cannon. The orb you fired will expand until it touches a wall or another orb. Each orb contains the number ‘3’, which decreases by one every time it is hit. After 3 hits they explode and you earn a point. The game could be endless… There is just one condition: a shot orb must not touch the death line above the cannon! If it does, the game is over. A simple concept to rack your brains and nerves.

Reviews

I trust there will be a major update soon?!
TheDecn

Completely agree with the previous reviews. I love Orbital so much I immediately bought the "HD" version, but was completely disappointed to get nothing more than a poorly upscaled version of the standard iPhone version. And a sluggish one at that...the iPhone version scaled 2x on the iPad is preferrable! I sure hope there will be a major update soon to make paying an additional $3 for this "HD" version worthwhile. Otherwise this will have been one of the bigger ripoffs I've been subject to in quite some time.

Interesting game

Interesting game, really good idea

Awesome on the iPhone, a disappointment on the iPad

The current version of Orbital for the iPad should have been a part of the iPhone app rather than a separate app...it's nothing more than a quick scale-up of the graphics and doesn't play nearly as well as the iPhone version, which is my favorite arcade-style game for the iPhone. The developer needs to rethink the iPad implementation and deliver something more that's worth the extra $2.99.

Choppy video
Ripe909

I love the iPhone version, but the iPad version is very choppy and doesn't add anything to the experience. Just scale up the iPhone version, it's better.

Play the iPhone version instead.

Seriously, I could have just hit the 2X button and saved myself $3. This is getting out of hand. Do not charge for a new app if you did not MAKE a new app.

Loved this game on my iPhone
FrothyMoose

...but it has not made the transition well to the iPad. Either it's not optimized for the processor, or the iPad can't keep up with what it's trying to do. (And I kind of doubt it's the latter.) The video is choppy and due to lost frames, it's difficult to line up shots like you need to. I agree completely with another commenter -- don't charge more for an HD version if you didn't MAKE a new version. This is simply a scaled up version with absolutely no improvements or new material. Boo.

Wait for the update

The iPhone version of this app runs smoother on the iPad than this HD rush job. It really needs some work before it is worth buying. Great game though.

Excellent gameplay, a few issues
UltimateOwnage

I love Orbital HD on the iPad. The gameplay is excellent, and I especially love the two player mode. My only gripe is that the frame rate is a little sluggish for the type of game that it is. Granted, it is pretty, but I would expect a much smoother frame rate out of the 1Ghz iPad CPU. I love it more on the iPad due to the larger real estate and better accuracy in super nova mode. Fix the frame rate, maybe add one more awesome mode, and this is a 5 star app.

Alas

Love this- I play it the most. Sadly, the iPhone version actually runs smoother on the iPad than HD version! Big hopes they enhance this version ASAP. Best to use the iPhone version until this gets fixed.

Yep, wait

I love the original and bought the upgrade before reading the reviews. It's much too sluggish and not nearly as fun. Hopefully this will be fixed fast!
