Cool but..

Results are stunning. Just maybe add a skip button so the process feels faster. Totally worth the money.
Worth the Time to Create Masterpieces!

I am glad that I waited 8 months before writing a review, because I might have agreed with some of the lower-rated reviews when I began. But, I now find that this app is magnificent! I don't read manuals, preferring to learn while experimenting with an app until I get the results I'm happy with. If you start off expecting Oilist to match the examples in 15 seconds, you'll be disappointed. As a former real-world painter who spent months on a painting, I eventually decided to let the app do its thing and come back to it later. It did a great job on the default settings, matching the examples, but I decided to play with the options to see what I could do. Some things worked, others didn't, just as experimenting did with oils and acrylics. To my joy, I went on to to win an award for an Oilist painting I submitted in a digital art show. I have 3 suggestions for dissatisfied users, and one request for the developer for future improvements. 1. TECHNICALLY, You will get the best results from your largest resolution images, with good composition, areas of light and dark, and great contrast (unless you want soft/impressionist-like results). 2. INVEST THE TIME to allow the app to fully resolve the style you choose, make sure you choose higher 'density' so any specks of "canvas" will cover more quickly, and adjust back to suit your needs, THEN make adjustments, and experiment. If you want fast ho-hum results, there are 10+ apps that'll do it for you. I use a few, but nothing comes close to Oilist. 3. FREE YOURSELF FROM EXPECTATION, and let yourself make mistakes; see how Oiliest resolves them. My best work seems to arise from surprising results/accidents and the intuitive ways Oilist responds, and if you don't like the results, try an adjustment! To the developer--While I'd love an 'erase' & 'redo' tool for small areas, I'd be happiest with a masking tool that can be introduced at any stage of the painting process. And to anyone reading to the bottom here, I was not paid or asked by the app to write anything here, and as a harsh critic of many apps I've reviewed, I stand by everything above! It's a rare 5 star review for me!
Great but..

I love the app use it all the time. However recently the app has been running very slow. I have an iPhone 7plus and all other apps are closed. Any tips on way it is running slow is appreciated as I love using the app.

I bought this app at midnight I should not have done so, I did not read all it did was just kinda blurr pictures and claim it’s like an oil painting.
Absolutely beautiful way to create art!

The effects you can build with Oilist are just mind-blowing in my opinion. I have taken some paintings that I created and was pretty proud of and turned them into something truly amazing with this program. I should say, too, that I usually don't have any interest in apps that will supposedly turn your photos and images into regular paintings or oil paintings. I always found the notion of that concept and genre just silly. But, I'm glad I took a chance with this one because to me it is really different and stands out from the crowd in what it allows you to create. Plus, I really like the aspect of the app on how it is constantly working to create effects in your photos and keeps generating new looks the entire time you're using it. Definitely a one-of-a-kind application in my opinion and well worth the decent asking price. Thanks for creating this app, its continued support and God bless. iPad Air 2/ iOS 11.2.t
