NOTU is game that uses colours and symbols to pose mathematical challenges to stimulate the mind. The game can be played at various levels, the simplest being accessible to children, the more complicated representing a challenge to adults.

How does NOTU work?

At the heart of NOTU is the simplest building block. There are 4 different types of symbol and these symbols have a variety of colours. The combination of the symbols characteristics and the colour give the symbol a value. In its simplest form deriving the value is the game. In its more complex forms the symbols are used to perform other tasks.

What do the colours represent?

There are five colours used in NOTU. Each colour has a value which is derived from the number of letters in the colours name. The five colours and their values are:

Red = 3
Blue = 4
Green = 5
Purple = 6
Orange = 6

What are the different types of symbol?

There are four different types of symbol; number, shape, letter and icon.

• Numbers - These are multiplied by their colour to come up with a value.
• Shapes – There are seven shapes and the number of sides they have is multiplied by their colour to come up with their value.
• Letters - There are eleven letters and their position in the alphabet is multiplied by their colour to come up with their value.
• Icons - The icons that come free with NOTU are animal icons. The letters in the name of the animal are multiplied by their colour to come up with their value.

What games can I play?

There are four games in NOTU:

• Simple Game – In two minutes calculate the answer to as many single symbols as you can
• Maths Game – In two minutes work out the answer for two symbols and use these in a maths problem
• True or False - In two minutes work out the answer for two symbols and use these to work out whether the statement is true or false
• Grid Game – There are nine symbols to calculate and you have just two minutes!

Each game has three difficulties; Easy, Difficult and Master. Selecting these will change the numbers used in the game from the simpler multiplications to much more difficult ones.

Finally NOTU comes in four languages; English, French, German and Spanish. Toggle between these to make the game harder or to learn new words for the colours and icons.
