Notes - Sight Reading Trainer

The app for those who are serious about learning and practicing sight reading!
Category Price Seller Device
Education Free Ryan Newsome iPhone, iPad, iPod

This app is designed to mimic the look and style of real sheet music. This is important when you transition between this app and your music as it will be a natural transition. Another important feature of this app is to read from left to right while having multiple notes on the staff at the same time as it would be with real music. This app does that in the most efficient way possible for the limited screen.

Features
- Simple interface that will allow you to naturally transition from app to sheet music
- Progressive lessons for both treble and bass
- Real piano sounds
- Optional visual aids with hints when you are stuck and note values on the keys
- Practice treble or bass

Don't use flashcards to learn to read music when you can learn it the right way.

There are many features planned. Please contact us with any feedback you may have.

This is the most amazingly useful application for developing a firm association of a piano keyboard and sheet music. Letters are initially employed within the lessons for the piano keys and sheet music while green or red key illuminations denote accuracy. Audio may be completely muted from the application’s simple options me menu. I utilize this silent feature for study everywhere.

Buggy sight reading with midi
mio no like

Tried connecting to my Yamaha Arius with mio midi. Works for about three notes then freezes, forcing you to hunt and peck on screen.

Fantastic

Great app to practice sight reading. The only thing I didn’t like is moving the keyboard back and forth on my iPhone, but it’s likely not like that on the iPad.

New tricks!
GT edits

My daughter has recently taken up the piano and she has a natural gift and ear for music. She needed an aid to move from understanding the notes as Do, Re, Mi..... to now C, D, E etc. I started using this app and was surprised at how fast I, a person with no musical background, could pick up this skill as well. Bravo to the developers.

What a great way to give back!

Made it a habit

This may be too much information, but we all do it: use our phones while sitting on the toilet. I made a rule for myself: I need to sightread one session of notes every time I do a longer session on the pot. Results? Slowly but surely I am getting better, and the improvement is inevitable! Feature requests: (1) I’d love to be able to chart my progress over time. (2) Metronome; I think this assists the brain with staying engaged rather than mind-wandering while reading notes. (3) Option to mark misread notes as wrong, while still allowing the user to still proceed, as would be the case with a real piano. Thanks for a super cool app!

Excellent app

Best music note training app I’ve found. Great way to “practice” when you’re on the go and not with an actual piano.

Cool app

Always wanted to play piano. This app definitely helps with reading music. Only other thing I’d like to see is lesson and practice names that show which notes are included in the lesson without having to start the lesson or practice. The 1, 2, 3... mean I have to open each on to see what it covers.
